Due Date Club October 2003:Dr's appmnt

Name: Uma Hi Frnds,

Today morning i had gone for my regular Dr appmnt,everything is fine (BP,weight,baby's heart beat)It seems baby's head is down and i am 1cm dilated.
Well i had few questions in my mind which i thought wud ask all of u,is anyone dilated yet and as my due date is 30th Oct,so is this too early for dilation ?
Wud really appreciate if u could pls add ur comments.Hope all of u are doing fine.

Good to know that ur baby is fine.I have heard that many stay dilated for weeks like 4-5 weeks and some others dilate in a day and go in labor.Every women is different.For me I haven't dilated yet so am not even sure if I will deliver in my due date ,might deliver after due date.All we can do is wait now as nothing is in our hands.

Does this mean you are 100% effaced? All the material says that the thinning of the cervix with dilation and contractions are what signify labor...so unless you have all three you are probably just getting ready for the baby. Let's hope someone who has already had the baby responds soon...

Gr8 to know ur baby is fine. DOn't think u should worry. My prev. appointment too the doctor said i have started to dilate, didn't ask him how much i was just glad he got his fingers out, didn't hear anything he said during the time..but husband said he said he could feel the head and i have started to dilate. I had asked him will i still be delivering around due date , he said currently looks like it. No pains as such for me as u had..thats the only difference.
My collegues say u can be absolutely not dilated one day and dilate suddenly in a day so its all just fate and ur baby's decision..(maybe), like sumana's case..don't worry..i am sure u will be fine. I too thought it was early, now don't mind anytime, as long as am not in pain, its fine, if it comes early and we have normal delivery still gr8. U tend to think a lot and rush in preparing, i just washed clothes...still to pack bag.
Will know next app. i am guessing if i still dilate more then i am sure doc will tell hw soon to expect. If it happens all in a day, gr8. keep ur bag prepared. :) ..Think nick/sumana will know better. Take care. Take rest. after 37th week i don't think its a prob even if u deliver early..till then sweet dreams. bye

What about effacement?

Hi Uma,

Hi Suni, correct me if I am wrong but I was under the assumption that 30% effaced (as in your case) would mean that you are 3 cm dilated..so Uma would be 10% effaced
