Hi Archie
this is a friend of sonal here posting on her behalf.
She is having black marks and hurting on one side so finding difficult to feed from that side .the baby is 5 days old.
Any suggestions what to apply to relieve the soreness and what might ve caused it.
She would be indeed grateful as she is a first time mom and little bit worried abtit.
thnks in advance

Hi

I read somewhere it will be helpful to keep a frozen cabbage/lettuce leaf to relieve soreness and pain on the breasts.

Hopefully this helps.

Regards

Sonal,
I am not sure what black marks you are referring? Do you mean aereola -skin around the nipple?
If that's nothing should be done and things will be alright in a few days.
However if the black marks are not aereola and somewhere else get it checked by Dr.

About sored nipple or breasts, it's very normal to face it in first week after childbirth. Some do apply vaselin. hurting and sored breasts is sign of milking glads, ducts are working and it will be alright once hormonal balance is achieve by body and your body knows how to regulate milk flow.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
