hii every body
i am in my eighth month of pregnancy.
i had called my mil for helping me,she is good but she wants me to eat lots lots of ghee and cream i have already put on 20n kilos after she has come ....now she says that after delivery i must eat lots of ghee for 1 month like 5 kilos atleast and should not eat curd or fruits .she says that ghee is necessary for brain development and i am now scared that if i dont loose weight after delivery i will never loose it.i told her that i have already put on so much i got to loose it ..she says u can loose it later...i dont want to be like other indian women who become terribly fat after delivery (like most in my family)please tell me ,is it really necessary to eat ghee and plenty of dry fruits after delivery and how to convince her that it is harm ful for health

Hi Sneha

I would partially agree with Archie.Eating good and nutritious food is good and essential;pre and post delivery. It is true that some weight will be lost post delivery but remember that ghee and creme will make you very fat and losing this weight without sufficient exercise is extremely difficult unless you are following an exercise regime now and are able to burn up the calories. As Archie suggested, take your MIL to the doctor on your next visit.Hopefully, the doctor can make her understand.

Good luck

Sandhya

Hi Sneha,

I will write the same response that I have writen for this of your message on joint family board.

Your mother in law wants to do the best what she think in her way and believes in old fashion style.

You will loose most of the weight you gained in pregnancy and may loose some in a week following delivery. So refrain from your weight concerns at this moment.

Eating highly nutritious food is considered to recover your mineral, nutrient loss during delivery and pregnancy, old fashioned Indian style. It's partly true but not totally. Eating balanced diet for long run or regular meal is the best instead eating plenty of fats and fruits in one month right after delivery.

Take your husband and MIL to your Dr. when you go next. Ask for the help ofyour husband to convince his mother on what Dr. will advice.

Hope you get what you want.
Archie

diet during pregnancy
Maintaining a healthy diet during pregnancy is very important.

During this time, your body needs additional nutrients, vitamins and minerals.

In fact, you may need 350–500 extra calories each day during the second and third trimesters.

A diet lacking in key nutrients may negatively affect the baby’s development.
