i have just weaned my 5 month old baby..doctor advised me start giving iron drops called ' orofer XT' to her..but i m worried my daughter will get constipated by this..as such she passes stools once in 4-5 days..pls comment.. dimple replied. Hi Puja,

Don' t worry. I weaned my son when he was 4n1/2 months because i developed uterus cancer. I didn' t give my son any iron supplements as the Infant Formula has everything thing in it. Now my son is 14 months and is doing excellent. But I always keep a check on his growth like weight, height, head circumfrence etc. If you need these charts you could print from indianmomsandbabies. Now my son is more that 75percentile in height and and sharp 75percentile in weight.
You are right excess of iron causes constipation. But your baby is 6 months. Its the time when babies learn to push by themselves cause earlier their body mussles where doing the job of pushing. Now he has to do this by herself. During this time babies usually have constipation. But all pediatrics say its ok even if the baby poops once in a week. but u know they get very uncomfortable because of this. My son took one month to learn to push or u can say to poop by himself. I was using child suppositories during this time if he didn' t poop for 2 days. Also some babies have peeing issues during this time. They either cry while peeing or they don' t pee at all...obviously mommy geys worried. If anything like this happen don' t get nervous, just act wisely. Make your little princess fell relaxed and comfortable, take out her diaper and very slowly pour a warm mug of water on the peeing areas and this will work. I was told all this by my Son' s pediatric. I guess i have wriiten a lot to read.
