Dear Fara,
This itching problem is known as PUPP and is faced only in the last trimester of pregnancy. It happens to only 0.25% to 1% of pregnant ladies. The eruptions and the itching start at the abdomen and then spread to the legs, arms and buttocks. The eruptions are red in colour and keep on spreading in no time. They itch a lot, specially, if you wear warm clothes or stay in hot climate. So, be sure to keep your body cool always. This itching goes permanently only after the delivery, but can be reduced with the help of medicines.
I know so much about it, as I myself am suffering from it for the past one month. I am wearing only light and soft cotton clothes nowadays and try to stay in cool temperature throughout the day (Though the people besides me are literally shivering because of me).
The doctor has prescribed an oral tablet (I will get the name of the tablet tomorrow, as it is there at my place), to be eaten twice a day for a week and has also prescribed a lotion called 'Eurax' to be applied twice a day. Believe me, both these things have heplped me a lot. Earlier, for a week, even I applied Calamine lotion, but it was providing relief only for an hour or two, whereas, these medicines have really provided a huge relief!
So, if you want, you too can try these, as they have been prescribed by my doctor. Otherwise, you can consult your doctor and see what she prescribes.
Take Care and Don't worry!

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

hi
So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
