Routine Tests:Internal Examination atthe last stage of pregnancy

Hi All,

I am 32 weeks pregnant with my first child and now starting to get a little worried about labour and delivery. I heard the doctor performs an Internal check up from the 36 week or so- I am a bit worried about these Internal examinations - Can some one shed some light on this as in what do the gynaec actually check up and also is it really painful ?
how does it help?

Hi Ads,
Internal exam is not at all painful. It is more of discomfort. The doc will put her two fingers(with the gloves on) in your vagina and try to feel baby's head. The ineternal exam can tell if you have dialated or the efaceing of the cervix has begin or not.
That evening or night you might feel little pressure in your vaginal area.....but that's all......after little rest it all goes away. Just relax when she is doing the internal.
