Hi ladies,
I hope u all r enjoying your pregnancies to the fullest. I had my 12th week NT scan, which is called Nuchal Translucency scan, on friday. This test was done through a normal abdominal scan and it determines the likelihood of any birth defects such as Downs Syndrome. This test measures the small fluid collection behind the back of the baby' s neck, it is present within the skin of all the babies but the increased amount of fluid determines the defects. So in a nutshell, this scan checks for any birth defects that could be detected on a scan. And this test is done around 12th to 16th week here in the US. Along with this the radiologist also checked the sac and its thickness, the placenta and the blood flow within it, the position of the placenta, and the routine checkup of other aspects of the uterus, ovaries and a quick scan of anything outside the uterus, baby' s heartrate and length etc, which they do everytime during a scan.
We were so so happy to see our baby in a dancing mood all throughout the scan. The moment I laughed our baby got even more excited and active and started jumping. It was an unforgettable moment, it just cannot be compared with anything else. Baby also joined both its hands and kind of said, \" Namaste mom and dad\" ....:) I think the babies are very active inside around this time but we just cannot feel any movement yet. My scan was normal touch wood, and my doctor did not see any abnormalities. They then asked me to do a blood test for Nuchal translucency, which is also normally done along with the scan. This scan went on for a little longer then my earlier ones. It was a 15 mts long scan, so we got a chance to watch our little one' s drama and dance for longer....:)
It is better to ask while the radiologist is doing the scan as to what exactly they are looking for and what does those terms mean, they explain everything properly. So that u urself get a clear answer to all ur queries and feel relaxed afterwards. Believe me ask all ur doubts how ever much silly they might sound to the doctor, it really makes u free of tension afterwards.
So that was all, u guys give ur updates soon. I' m sure u might be having ur 12th to 16th week scan very shortly. Give ur updates and enjoy ur pregnancies.
God bless us all and keep showering good health to our little ones. Take care
Madhu
