Due Date Club July 2005:Hi

Name: saral kapoor

Hi,
My name is Saral Kapoor.I have been visting this page since the time I was pregnant.I was blessed with handsome son Aaroh on 8 july 05.He has been darling baby.He can crawl, stand by support and now trying to walk with support. But am waiting for his first tooth to come.He was totally breastfed till six months. Also went to India, Dubai, Bahrain (only me n him).He took all flights very well.
After starting solids till last week he ate nearly every thing(mainly banana, avocado, kidhchi, weet bix, parathas(ya!was delighted to eat that))But now he has started fussing saying no to stuff, after one or two bites.
I am trying to give him every thing possible but he has firm no for every thing. He never took bottled food or formula(which I tried after six months, guess that was a mistake)He happily takes his breast feeds but since for last one month I was feeding him 3 times a day it is gone down fair bit.I am really worried.Hope it is passing phase and he will increase his intake again.BTW his weight is 10 kg from seven and half months.so weight wise he is still ok.I am seeing nurse on Thursday.
More later
All suggestions welcome.
Love to all lil ones
Saral

hi saral, how are you.
congratulations to you.
Lots of love to aaroh.
good to know about his growth.
WOW,you travelled alot with him :)..please please send me tips to travel by air..we are planning for a vacation,,need tons of tips ! m still reading all forums to get some good ideas...
pls advice.

and continue bf as long as you can strech..i am losing my patience now, as she bites badly.

about solids, try all combinations.like in one meal, give all things differently instead of combining togther.
one bite (spoon) of ne vegie and then some other vegie or paratha piece,,and so on,,with the varieties he will b interested in eating. try if it works.
also, add herbs like parsley, coriander, a sprinkle of cinamon, cardamom, salt, and i recently gave her khichadi with 1 curry leaf in it, and she gulped all of it.all these are absolutely ok to give, and are good for health too..today i gave her apricots with fruits with some cardamom,,and it was delicious,i njoyed it too :))..just a sprinkle is a alot of flavour for them.
salt is ok, sugar is a big NO NO.though in india, everyone gives kheer, sheera.

give him little pieces of foods to master \";self eating\";..after 7 months, babies are on their way to do that...and they njoy that, and let us feed them :)

and like chaitra said, untie him while eating..
whnever nirja fusses with eating, i make her sit on the floor on her mat she njoys playing on floor with her bits and pieces of boiled vegies, and in that i make her finish rest of her spoons.
so try these, hope it helps.
and there are times, when they just dont want to eat ne more than 4-5 spoons,,, but play and drink all the time,so we have to go by their way :)))

do send some pics of aaroh.

love to aaroh.Good Luck.

Hetal.

Hi,,
ditto here.In the intial stages after starting solids, the babies just like trying out new flavors. Now that they r used to it & that they are more mobile ,they just like to explore other things & doesn't like to be tied down. This is just what I think.
I dont give her anything else to eat or drink atleast 1 hr prior to feeding time.I just show her different toys for every bite.Yeah & as priya said,i also give her 1 or 2 spoons of water first.Hope this helps.

priya, chaitra, jst wanted to share with you guys,

avoid giving water starting before meals, instead try gving water some couple spoons, some 1 hour before meal !
water and food together at meals, is not a good habit.its our indian saying that one should drink water only after meals,,not before meals and not in between meals,,,and its a proved fact actually now.all those who are conscious about health follows that. i too came to know during my pregnancy only.
so there must be some logic in it..its in charak sanhita, its a book on health and ayurveda by all our religious gurus.i might sound too traditional but if its not good for our health and apetite, then for babies its no way good.
and our lil babies with fist size bellies,, every spoon counts ! y replace even one of them with water !

if that is the only way, lil one eats ,try replacing water with homemade vegie stock or broth or fruit juice.atleast all good things will go with the meal.plus vegie stock or soup acts as an appetiser & a great digestive.
some hing, very very less salt, 2 drops of lemon ( in 3 big cups of water ),and (2-3 cups of chopped vegies, add some mashed squash and sweet potatos ( sour and sweet taste),and let it boil or pressure cook. and give that.you store and freeze this stock in icetrays ..last upto 3 months and a great juice for evenings too.
add more salt and pepper or hot sauce and some tomatoes with fried onions,,and its great for our meals too !

njoy, love to lil ones.
Hetal

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
