Hi,
I had a c section delivery 3 months back and still have loose flabs on my stomach. I have lost about 50 of my preganancy weight gain but however my loose flabs show bad in trousers.
I have heard about good tummy tuck in programs offered by slimming centers. Has anybody tried it. Are they really helpful?
What is the ideal time for weight loss and tummy loss?

fat mom replied. That was a wonderful answer. I really appreciate you taking time and explaining things to patiently. Somehow, to me, your style of writing resembles to Sandya' s! Just felt so.
I hv been thinking of a tummy tuck and after reading what u hv said, I am sure about it now. Just waiting to get rid of this excess weight. I hv already lost 6 kgs in 4 m, i was 81 kgs and now stand at 75. Want to go to 60. 15 kgs!
But thanks again for your answers. They really helped.
exp replied. fat mom,
how does the tuck happen?
it happens by making an appt with a plastic surgeon. i am kidding, sorry about that. Basically i made an appt with a few plastic surgeons around the place i live and went and saw them in person. I narrowed it down to 2 doctors i really felt comfortable with. One a dean of plastic surgery at one of the very reputed hospitals around this place and the other a very popular doc around this place who my obgyn recommended saying if his wife wanted a tummy tuck then he' d send his wife to him. Pretty good reference, right?
Anyway, i decided on the more popular one for a few good reasons. One and most imp was the money involved. The more popular one was $2000 cheaper than the chief of staff. Second when i did a health report check on both of these doctors the popular one came out really popular meaning a lot of ppl were really happy with his services.
Before i went in for the surgery, me and my husband had to go see him before the surgery where he explained what was to be expected from the surgery. Where the incision would be made, how much of skin i was going to lose(in inches) and how much recover time will be involved if there were no complications.
Is there any incision?
yes, there is and the doctor would explain from where to where? However the incision is very precise and will not appear above your bikini line, so no one other than your husband/partner would really know that you had a surgery. Just like your c-section mark, this incision would also lighten within a few years, but you are given options of lightening this up right after surgery. This costs extra.
What really happens in a tummy tuck?
If you have loose flabs hanging around your tummy due to massive weight loss around this portion, then what the doctor basically does is cut you up at your bikini line, pull all the lose skin down and hold it tight. Make a mark as to how many inches needs to be cut. In addition, he would also put permanent stiches inside to hold your rectus muscles close together again which come wide apart for most asian women after child birth. This will enable the woman to regain her hour-glass figure once again. Also if your belly button is displaced due to any pull of your skin, then the belly button is cut and place again in the middle so you look normal again. As you well know, the function of belly button is only cosmetic after your birth. But since you had it by birth, you might want to have it back again to regain some normalcy. So, that' s what happens. He then puts two drips inside your skin b' cos your body tends to store lot of fluids until your skin and muscle glue up again as one after the surgery. These drips are in place for couple of weeks. Another reason to stay away from work. Hope this helps.
exp replied. Archi, wow!! you sound like super motivated to lose 50% of your post-pregnancy weight in a 3 months after delivery. GREAT!!. I understand that you have flabs hanging from all the weight that you lost. The quick solutions to that would be using girdles or shapers that you get in any dept stores here in the US. They basically let you retain your shape by compressing the bad portions inside. However this is only superficial since you cannot get rid of the real flabs.
For the long run, like you mentioned, tummy tuck is the only solution. But before you consider a consmetic surgery, consider this....are you planning on having more kids? if so, the tummy tuck which cost around $6000 avg here is the US will go wasted b' cos you tend to gain weight and lost some after a baby. Also a tummy tuck needs for you to take time off from work(avg 3 to 4 wks). One more imp thing. You need to lose all the weight that you want to before you go in for this procedure and keep it off for atleast a yr before you consider a tummy tuck.
Make sure you know what you are getting into. Have realistic expectations from the procedure and only go to a board certified surgeon. Please do not get fooled by some slimming commercial centers and before you go in for the procedure, make sure you check out all your surgeons credentials.
In answer to your question if someone had this surgery on this board, then yes, i did undergo the same and i couldn' t be happier with the results.

Fat mom, if you are prone to scar easily then your scar will take longer to disappear. Many of my friends who had c-sections don’t have scars showing. So, it is the quality of your skin tone that matters with scarring.
It is not necessary that you will scar. But only u know how your body reacts to injuries. So, you know it better than i. In my case, I scar fairly easily and hence taking longer to recover from the scars.
Diff between tummy tuck and liposuction
Tummy tuck doesn’t rid of any body fat. It rids you of only any loose skin that is hanging around your mid-section after you lost massive amts of weight around this region. And also tummy tuck places your stomach (rectus-erectus) muscles back together if they are displaced.
Liposuction : everybody is born with a certain amt of fat cells as dictated by their genetics. Liposuction is removal of these fat cells from a certain part of the body where they show in excess(say mid-section). The upside to this is, this is a easier way to lose body fat albeit expensive and look good right after. The major downside to this is, if you don’t change your lifestyle and eating habits then your existing fat cells will begin to store the excess fat and will compensate for the lost fat cells from your body. Meaning all the fat that you lost due to a lipo would pile back on your body if you are not careful with what you are doing. And ofcourse, if the genetics dictate that you be of certain shape then there is little lipo can do for you unless you plan on going under the blade quite often. Again in which case money is what matters most. So, if money is at your disposal to throw away, then go ahead and have a ball with it.
Why doesnt the scar show for actresses who go under the knife and show off their bodies?
Like I mentioned before, the scar can be made lighter by the doctor using something called silicone padding. It costs more. And it mainly depends on how fast you want your scar gone. I didn’t mind having the scar since it doesn’t look bad at all. I know that I am never going to wear a bikini, so there is no one else to look at the scar other than my husband, who is totally ok with it. However the plastic surgeon was kind enough to have cut on my c-section mark instead of making a third mark on my belly.
So, having said that, the actresses probably go all the way to get rid of the scar OR their skin tone is naturally good that the scar heals quickly(after all, they are actors and are supposed to take good care of their bodies, right?) OR they use makeup to hide the scar. Dunno which one of these factors that might hide their scars, but it could be any. Having said all of that, if a able plastic surgeon does the surgery like in my case, then the scar is nothing but a very thin line exactly at your bikini line. It is visible only when you go below your bikini line and honestly how many actresses have you seen going below that line?
Your questions are reasonable and I don’t mind answering them at all. I believe in making informed decisions and I respect my body and my health. I find the same qualities in you, so I am here answering your questions. Good luck and let me know if there is anything else you need answered.

Awesome!
Realy really appreciate this!
I was thinking to do something abt the tummy flab. I hv had normal deliveries and was thanking my luck that I dont hv a scar on my stomach. I also dont have tummy although I m quite overweight. Its just this lose flab.
My tummy doesnt show when I am dressed up. When I sqat, the flabs show. Sigh. Precisely, I wanted to cut the tummy flab for my hubby only but u r saying that the scar will be there.
Anyways. I will take the decision.
Is tummy tuck same as liposuction?
Why doesnt the scar show for actresses who go under the knife and show off their bodies?
Please see if u can get time to answer this.
