Due Date Club July 2005:sleeping concerns for 7 month old
2006-03-10
Name: abc

hi, i m a first time mom.m a silent reader of this post, and so far i was able to get all my answers from all the replies you all post. these days, m facing major probs about my 7 months old.

my 7 month old, wakes up every 2 hours for milk..i tried giving equal amounts of water or formula, to her,but she resists taking that, and in return she will again wake up and cry harder to get the milk. so i give her the bottle of bm. her night feeds are almost like 8-12 ounces !!!! she does this whole night ! i dont know how to stop this,,please sincerely advice. i m really tired of this routine..secondly, she sleeps at midnight 12 and not before that..dont know how to take that in routine. if i try to make her sleep early, she wakes up after 30 mins or so and she will go to sleep much later, than 12 midnight ! how should i go about it..
i started solids to her on her 7th month, and i started solids because people told me that prob she might sleep better ! but after have 2tablespoons of cereal with vegies in lunch, 2 at night and morning 1.5 as breakfast with fruits,,she still follows this routine !

i dont give her nething in brunch in late evenings, until now, was planning to start with something in the evenings...please advice if nething i can give her. also, wat is whole days menu that you all follow..

after all this routine,i m really tired. my dh job is so demanding that he cant make it up everytime to get me sleep or give me hand, i dont have ne help over here in US. after all this, my baby looks fresh in the morning, to my surprise, she sleeps at 12 midnight, wakes every 2 hours, takes milk, and gets up wide awake at sharp 8 in the morning....then at 930 i give her breakfast, and she naps around 10-1030 to until 12. and then she plays until her lunch time, which will b around 130-200 in the noon,,and then she naps for some 1-2 hours...often she misses noon naps.

after that until night 930 she is on expressed bm. if i give her early dinner, she naps and gets up and ends up sleeping more later than midnight !!!

please advice something. if this goes on, i dont know where will i end up ! i need serious rest now.

like vidya and priya said, increase gradually the solids, if all of sudden is difficult for you to give her or she cant take it.
also, if you think she is not taking it properly, keep herr busy 2-3 hours before the meal time, to make her really hungry.
if you are afraid of ne gas or reflux or tummy upset, put sprinkle very small dash of hing to her foods,,use parsley, oregano flakes often with every cereal and she will njoy the meal. these have strong flavour, and they love it plus they arent harmful, as they are the herbs,,,but just 1 or 2 flakes...you will get them in ne store,in the dried herb section.
and if you think she resist eating, add flovours or combinations of different vegies and fruits, and add ne herb, she will love it.
take care, njoy.

also, for a 7 month old baby, its needed for her body to take almost 8 oz at night, and if she awakes 2 times at night, it is fine, go ahead and feed her..if she is not much interested in solids.
more than that ?? DONT entertain that, she is got into habit of feeding every now and then, stop that,,
ease her with some back rubbing or take her and rock her for a while or just give water !
nirja,my daughter is just at the milestone you mentioned, and for me too it was same thing, i started givin her water for all the unneccessary feeds and she sleeps now at a strech for 5 hours which is actually her night sleep.
she might cry a while for milk but dont entertain that.giving her water will make her stop waking every now and then...also, dont give water with bottle,,give with spoon,,often babies dont like that so they wont drink much and this way they wont disturb their actual feedings! with bottle, they will keep drinking until they feel full.
when you do that, they will avoid getting up !
take care.

Hi,
In u'r case it might be the dal, may be she is gassy. Try avoiding it for 3-4 days and see. Also once the kids are used to getting upoften it becomes a habit. So it will take sometime even if u increase their solid intake.

Like Priya said, PLEASE INCREASE HER CEREAL INTAKE. She is hungry that is why gets up. A 7 month old should eat atleast 4-5 tablespoon cereal at a time. And more she wants. Also should drink 4oz milk at a time. babies are different but this is the genral guideline. May be you can give her cereal in the morning and for dinner and lunch you can give thinks like apples and chicken or gerber lunch foods, that too if she wants more than one 2nd stage bottle u should give. Dinner you can feed her aound 7.0 - 7.30pm try keeping her awake until 9pm no nap from say 6 pm onwards. Can try giving her a nice warm bath by 8.30pm and give her breast milk by 9.0-9.30 pm and put her to bed. Switch of the lights, put some light music and lie down with her. Don't get up or switch on the light whatever happens. She will learn with time that it is bed time.

Good luck.

Hi abc,
I shd be helping u with this reply but whatever u have written there is exactly my prob too.
I used to give her 2 times solids & once gerber 2nd stage fruits. She usedc to get up every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs for expressed milk.Infact,I increased her intake yest but it was still worse. She didn't sleep properly the whole night. Here's what I do now..

Morning for breakfast & noon lunch:KHichdi
for making this, rice 4 spoons ,dhal 2 spoons, vegetable of my choice pressure cook & puree.the reason for giving this even for breakfast is that i make this in a thin consistancy & easily digestable.I just want her to eat vegetales with dhal twice daily.
At 4:30,I give her fruits(g 2nd stage)
at 8:30,rice cereal or mixed cerealwith milk.I just stuff it in her mouth so she is full.
expressed milk,i dont keep track of how much.
i used to give her baths in the morn but now i will start in the evenings.Lets see how it goes..hope it works out

Dear ABC
You need to increase the amt eaten in the day...a 7 month old can tale up to 4oz food with vereal and also 4oz milk with that....
She doesnt seem to be eating enough during the day and that is why she is waking up.
In the morning give her 3tbsp cereal and 2 oz fruit...then after 30-45 min give her 4oz milk
at lunch give her 2tbsp cereal and 4 oz veg then after 30 mins give some juice 2oz
in evening give her 3tbsp cereal and 2 oz veg 2 oz fruit maybe at around 7.30 and then b4 bed give her milk like 6 oz

this is a genereal lay out for a 7 month old she may not eat everything but it will give you an idea.....
also on top of this she should be taking including the milk feedings stated atleast 20-24oz of milk ....
she is 7 months old and is getting hungary ..she is growing and you bneed to feed her more siolids otherwise she will cry a lot,,,
Priya

Subject:  juice !

the things you told,i will try, chaitra & priya, but i read in my booklet that was given by my dr that juices are better to b introduced after 9 months.
will 7 month old baby b able to get into juices. any specific juices to give ?
in the breakfast she doesnt take more than 2 tbsp. i will try to increase but i cant stuff her.
since i have started her solids in 7th month, thats beginig of this month only, giving right way 3 tblspoon sounds abit more to me. please nsure me that its no prob.abit concerned to give that much all day !
she just toched 9.2 kgs and she is of height 26.
she rolls all the time, in sleep, sits without support and also tries to stand holding onto something.
when i stuff her more, which i have tried, to make het sleep, she doesnt feel comfortable doing nething, and keeps on sleeping & remains inactive, and coz of that, she ends geting stomach upset, because no activity and stuffing al the time, looks like doesnt work for her.
and if i try to keep her awake, she goes out of control and becomes really fussy.otherwise she is a good girl, she sleeps on her own, gets up on her own, and never cries,,except the sleep time is no routine for her !

wat to say about this.please let me know.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
