Hi hopingfortejas & blessed_mom,

Even I am curious to know when the baby actually hears:)Don't know much, have started reading books on pregnancy.

I am reading a book \";The Pregnancy Bible\"; by Stonne & Eddleman, in that there is a chapter Your Baby's Senses Here is a small extract:

Your baby starts reacting to sound at around 24 weeks and the louder the sound, the stronger the reaction. Your baby's environment is full of rich and varied sounds: Your heartbeat and the blood pulsing through your arteries and veins form a sound backdrop, and he/she can also hear intermittent gurgles from your stomach and intestines.

Sounds from the world outside your body, such as TV, music also carry through your abdomen and are heard by your baby. These sounds, however are much quieter for your baby than they are for you. This is because as noise travels towards you, many of the sound waves are bounced back or absorbed by your clothes and skin - only a small amount of noise penentrates through the wall of your abdomen to reach your baby's ears. Sounds with a high frequency are reflected more easily, so your baby hears moatly low -frequency sounds.

Of all the sounds your unborn baby will hear, your voice is the one that will stand out most. This is because your baby hears you in two ways: first, through the sound waves that comes out of your mouth and travel through the air; and second from the vibrations that travel through your body when you speak.

It is long but I hope it was an interesting artice. But as blessed_mom has mentioned if it is week 15 then we are not very far. Even I keep talking to my baby:))

Bye,
Leo

Hello P,

baby can for sure hear the voice in week 15 and I think it can recognize that it is your voice in week 17. By week 23, the baby can even recognize father's voice!!
