Hi Friends,

Please don't think I am being paranoid.

My son is 2.5 and I am trying to teach colors for him ..but haven't been quite successful. What are the ways ?. Any experiments ?...

he just associates the color to the article , but never understands the color ... like .... he just associates black to hair .. but never sees that as a color ...

I have tried books and chocolates ...

Hi....I agree with Rajshree and kalpana...in my daughter's pre school...they have colour days...where children bring any item ( not toy) of that particular colour....and the whole fortnight has activities associated with that colour. Now my 2 and 1/2 year old \";ello\"; or \";blooo\"; when she sees anything on tv or in the neighbourhood of that colour. We as parents also point out objects of some colours when we go out. Make a fun game out of it..instead of sitting down specially to teach him about colours. I think he follows the concept but can't say it as yet...give him time.

dear kalpana,

it is very common.. my son is 3 yrs old.. i had put him in play group when he was a year and half... there he was taught colors but still he cant recognise colours easily.. u try teaching him only 3 primary colours red blue and yellow.. thats it
and make it a point to show him every thing that appears in these three colours.. u can show him sun for yellow, may be his clothes.. flowers, any item...and gradually he will learn colours.. they do not understand the concept of colour and they try to associate it with the object.

rgds
namrata..

Do not try to teach all colours simutaniously, start from only one coluor like red, then don't say that is red and that is yellow, introduce all the red colours things one by one,see this is Red, this is not Red.

RE:What Toddlers Should Be Learning?
Toddlers are at a crucial stage of learning, where foundational skills for life are being developed. At Skillmatics, we believe toddlers should be learning cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory building, and recognition of shapes, colors, and patterns. Language development, motor skills, and social-emotional growth are equally important during these years.
