Due Date Club December 2005:Hi archie can u pls advice.....

Hi archie,

I have Hypothyriodism past two yrs and iam taking levothyroxin 100mg.Just wanted to ask u is there anything in particular i should be telling the doctor at this stage abt the thyroid (he knows abt my thyroid) but like is there any test they are suppose to do for baby which i should ask them. cos i dont want my baby to get it.

one of my friend said iam supposed to tell the doc when i go for my delivery so that they do a test on my baby once he is born. is it right. And one more question is within how many hours should we breastfeed the baby.During my first baby i was not aware or told and fed the baby only in the night but she was born in early morning. I was very upset that i was late in feeding her which i always feel guilty.

I dont want it to be repeated so pls can u suggest when can we feed the baby?

Hi shazia,
I also have hypothyroidism and my Gyn knows and she told me to take blood test every 3months during this pregnancy period (generally every year they'll check). I came to know that after the baby born within 2 days they'll do some tests and it'll include this thyroid test. Thats what my hospital told. Check with your doc. Even then its better to tell the Ped when we first met because we don't want them to suffer as we are.
good luck

you will tell your thyroid situation to pediatrician to whom your baby will be shown, before delivery.

no, you don't need to tell your OB unless someone else is going to be in labor room and not your OB.

you can feed baby anytime after birth, as early as possible. I don't think feeding in night for a morning born baby is late. I fed Advait only next day after he was born. Remember your baby is in good hands and won't starve. Besides babys born can be starving for about 36-48 hours from birth as they already have storage of nutrients with them. Milk won't start at first time of feed for many mothers.

if it's vaginal birth try in a few hours after delivery.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
