hi all, my 2.9 yr old daughter has just started her preschool since last week and the prb is she is not speaking in the class nor responding to her teacher. she is very shy in front of other kids although they too started their preschool on the same day. for the first 2 days she cried a bit in the class but then she get adjested to the change and now her teacher says she don't respond to her and participate much in the activities they do in the class... she wanders around in the class room, don't mix with other n play with other kids in the class and remains quiet.her teacher told me that she just wants to hold her hand through out the class duration.. we moved from delhi to US a yr ago and here she don't have any kid of her age to play awith so she don't have a play group. i tried taking her to the liberary n playgrounds but there too she just wants to be with me n not mixing n playing with other kids... she was very outgoing till we were in India. she is very sharp and knows many rymes and her abc's n numbers frm 1-20.she tells every thing and behave properly with us but not in front of any one... pls tell me ur suggestions that what should we do as a parent at home so that she starts enjoying her preschool n learn.

Ur daughter is behaving very normally.give her six mnths and u'll b amazd to c the difference .I also had a similiar problem with my 3 yr old son

By the way my surname is also mathur .Where r u in US ?
namu replied. dont fret...my 3 yrs old son was like this too when he started schooling a year back....he would stick to his teacher,would hide behind me when faced with strangers....just keep taking her out to places where there are lots of children like parks,playdens and there u start interacting with other children..soon she will follow you.dont be disappointed if she doesnt mix initially..kids take their own time..more u force her ...more she moves in her den...my son took 6 months to open up...and is still shy ..but not as he was earlier....all the best
