Due Date Club November 2003:Changing table?

Do we really need to buy a changing table (the kind that attachs itself on the crib)for the baby? Has anyone bought one yet.. I bought a changing pad, and got one with the diaper bag too. I feel that should suffice. Want to know your opinions about this.

Hi,

I have bought a changing table as I felt I would be really straining my back if I was bending all the time. I know we can sit and do it, but as the midwife said we are expected to change heaps of nappies in the first 18 months, it willbe a lot better for our backs if we have a changing table.

Usually 2 types of change tables are available .One with a change top and two shelf like boards below it.The other option is a change table with a chest of drawers below it. I have bought the second one as it is really helping me keeping the baby's clothes organised as well.

I would say if you have the space to keep it, go for it.

I agree with Avi, it's more of a convenience sake. Infact I feel it would be safer to change on a broader area, say on the bed or on the floor. If you have drawers to organize your baby's clothes & accessories, then you can do without it.

Hey Vandana, I too have the changing pad/mattress, but haven't yet bought a changing table.. I want to try and do without it before purchasing a changing table..
We have this large dresser/drawer which kinda looks broad enough to be a changing table.. so might use that and see how it goes

I have also bought changing pad and my diaper bag has one with it. I haven't bought a changing table, I thought it was really not necessary.
