Joint Family:SIL Problem
2007-06-07
Name: Lakshmi

I stay in a joint family with MIL, FIL, BIL and my husband, by gods grace everyone in the family are good to me, except my sister in law. She is educated, but acts as an uneduacted lady, she is very envy about my relationship with my MIL, FIL and husband. She has stopped coming to my house and she blames i am the reason for that. Last week i had a baby shower in my mom' s place, my mom as a formality she invited her for the function. But She shouted at my mom and complained lot about me. I have never troubled her for a single day, but why is she envy about me. By the grace of god, my husband is very caring and he loves me to the core. But this lady comes in between us and makes me disturb a lot. She is not allowing me to be in peace. I am in my last days of pregnancy, but this lady keeps complaining about me to all the relatives and unnecessarily creating tensions to me. How to get rid of her. The main problem with her is she is egoist.

Please help me to get rid of her.

This is a time for you to concentrate on your health, the coming babay and bonding with your hubby so he too feels wanted and happy when the babay comes.
It' s so great that you have a good relationship with your ohter family memebers,so let this sil matter rest for now.Spend time and energy on positive acts and thinking now.
Does sil have a baby?Has she npo been able to have one?if so that can make her fell totally envious, make her feel that baby is her niece/nephew,so she feels wanted too.
If this is not the case, then please explain why she is jealous or insecure?

Hi Lakshmi

You said you have a good relationship with your MIL.. is she not saying anything to her?

Speak to her...and get her to talk to her daughter.

Should a single man live with his mum in India?
I am a man in my late 40s and I have lived abroad in USA for the past two decades. I never had any interest in marrying or having kids so I never married. Recently my Dad passed away and my mother will be alone. I have made enough money to retire comfortably but because I am used to the American lifestyle I can't live in India. Recently my relatives have started saying tha... - Venkat Dabri [View Message]
