Due Date Club July 2005:Cleaning baby's gums

Hi Everyone,
I have finally started rice cereal for Arjun. He has started looking at us while we were eating with a look that he also wanted some of it. Once he tried to grab some food from his dad's hands to put in his mouth so we thought its high time , we should start solids as we started feeling guilty having all that fun just ourselves. And as he is 5 months, a week +, so i guess this should be fine.
I am giving one teaspoon rice cereal to him since yesterday during lunch and he is taking it well. I have one question though...
All of you, who have started solids for your babies, Sheeja, Priya, Sudha, Sweety... are you cleaning babies gums as well? I was wondering if I am supposed to do that or not.. If not now then when.. If yes then how to do that? Is there a danger of his gums getting infected if I don't clean those?
Please reply.

good to hear that u started solids. slowly u can start giving 1st foods. reagrding gum cleaning, my ped told no water to babies till 6 months. coz water will fill up only empty calories. so im not giving water.

but my mom always suggesting me to give water daily. instead of water i use to give her formula 2 or 3 spoons after each feeding otherwise i will give breastmilk.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
