Nurseries and Schools:choosing pre-schools
2006-07-06
Name: a well wisher in bangalore

Choosing what you want for your child is the most difficult decision. As a first time parent when I had to put my child to a pre-school I did not realise that a few pre-schools only brag and market their school well. But in actual truth their focus is never a child but only profit. A partner of a well reputed pre-school (after a split on the partners) disowned her children and cooked up matter for the report provided when half of what was written was not actually done in the school. When questioned she just kept passing on the blame and then finally suggested that the child be sent back for re- learning after the damage was already done. Several parents who spoke to the partner got the same response of brushing their queries and concerns in a very diplomatic manner. This makes me wonder why do certain people start a pre- school with no background in dealing with children. People who have no background in teaching and cook up a bio-data, managing children?? Today I realise that there is no best pre-school. Ideally a child needs to go to a good day care center to have fun upto the age of three and then start formal schooling, i.e Lkg and then move on in a school of repute. Parents putting a child to pre-school that show a good picture outside, schools that say a child could directly go to the first standard....BEWARE of such schools. CHOOSE WISELY.

Hi. I totally agree. At the other end of the spectrum are schools that hardly advertise, but offer just what the child needs. I dont know too much about other schools, but I feel Vimal Shishya on Wheelers Road, Coxtown really concentrates on the development of the child and not on money or image of the school.

I don't think anyone had any bad intention of scaring people by sharing their experience. The first 8 years of a child is important. However you can start helping the child at home itself. There are sveral pre-schools. But you need to choose carefully as there are a few schools that have only created a hype but in reality have no base. I wonder if Rekha was scared by the comments made or whether it has helped her to choose wisely.

Hi, Rekha, I absolutely agree with Annie. Kara4kids run by one Katherine Rustumji is the worst of the lot. If you want to read more about them please google ´ Kara Bangalore consumer forum´ and read for yourself. Don´ t even think of putting your child there. The place is filled with uneducated english speaking ladies who knows nothing about child care. Money minting too. Beware..

Dear Rekha,
The first 8 yrs of the child is when the brain develops. So it is extremely important to give them the right environment for growth. Though some people have had bad experiences with preschools, generally after a good survey, you should have no problems. Choose someone with an educational background and not just a fancy name or environment. Choose an institution wchich believes in brain development and giving the best input for it. Hope you haven't been scared off preschools forever.
Regards,
Preethi

I thought to myself and then realised there is no use hiding the name. The pre-school or so called preschool which actually should only be known as a day care is KARA in HSR layout. Today most of the parents just like I did intitialy get totally confused with a day care and a pre-school. A pre-school is an alternate school which needs to ensure the child is eligible for regular school. This school that is very expensive goofed up so much and to top it all does not claim any responsibility for the wrong report.

Dear Rekha
I was talking about the alternate schools in Bangalore today i.e schools other than the regular schools. If your child is 2 years old you need to decide what do you want for your child. Do you want thechild to go to a school wich has facility upto the 12th standard. What sort of school are you looking for, a traditional school or a school that is very relaxed with studies yet completes the portion. In the latter, there are a very few number of schools that do justice. It is always better for your child to go to the schools play group. If it is a day care that you are looking for then you need to look for cleanliness, safety. Moreover proximity to your home, just in case you need to rush for what so ever reason. Do not fall for schools which say they will accomodate children upto 5+. The school I was talking about is now in HSR layout. It was renamed and restarted recently and they claim to be the first school with international standards. You will get the name if you search google. I do not want to mention it out in the open. They claimed to do so much however when it came to the time of admission most of the parents realised that it was tough for their child to get into a school as their were misguided by the pre- school. Moreover most of what was written in the report of the child was wrong. When the people in charge were approached they got away with excuses, one after the other. I hope I have answered your query.

RE:What Toddlers Should Be Learning?
Toddlers are at a crucial stage of learning, where foundational skills for life are being developed. At Skillmatics, we believe toddlers should be learning cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory building, and recognition of shapes, colors, and patterns. Language development, motor skills, and social-emotional growth are equally important during these years.
