Nurseries and Schools:toilet training before school

hi i have a son who is now 2yrs and 3months.all his developments are normal like he has left the feeding bottle and can drink milk in a glass he is talkative and is very confident.he wil be going to to a play school from the next week.well the problem is he is not potty trained.and he absolutely refuses to cooperate.even if he feel like it he controls the pressure and can stay for 2-3 days without passing stool.he is used to do it standing up in a diaper.i am probably late in introducing him to the potty but am going crazy as i have not been able to make him do it properly in a potty.he sits there for almost 1hr but will either sing songs or tell himself stories...pls help me with advises.

Hi ,
there are two things parents cannot control according to our little ones, what goes in and what comes out. I understand he is not going until u put him in diapers. Try to give him a lot of fiber diets and lots of liquids. He will go even if it takes five days. It will get hard and conspitated but it all control of the parents. Don't pressure him let him go when he wants. Even if he passes three days but as a parent you can let him drink and eat. When he has to go he will.

Dear Mandy
I understand what you are going through. My daughter too would do the same. When you say you get angry, I think what you mean is getting irritated. It is only natural for any parent to do so. But then at some point of time we need to understand that, a child does not refuse to do something without a valid reason. In this case your child may fear to pass stool as the first time he did pass stool after a gap, it would have been very difficult for him. The stool gets a little hard with each passing day. There may be slight bruises too in the area which again hurts. However there is nothing to worry. There is a solution. Stool gets softer with more fiber intake and make him drink a lot of fluids. You need to create the push from inside. Also make sure that there are no wounds in the area. If so treat it. Ensure it is kept clean. Do not put him on diaper during the day unless you are going out. When he finds it difficult to go teach him to go. You need to enact it to him. I remember those miserable days with my daughter but all got well. It took some time but today it is all solved. Do not worry and yes another thing I did was to pray.

Dear Mandy
Remember, instead of telling a child do as I say, it is always best to say do as I do. Show him the need to go to the toilet. Do not use a separate potty. Instead use a potty seat on the regular closet. Take of the childs diaper during the day. For a day or two you should learn the patterns of the child. Then gradually take the child to the toilet at those times. Remember for any great work done there is a little mess always. We all did do. Its only when we expect things to go easier that we find it more difficult. All the best. All will go well.

I think if he goes on for 3days then there is some problem with his health. for whatever reasons he cant control his feeling of passing the stool. i think you should ask his ped. is his eating normal does he complain of stomach pain or something. pl. check on that too.
Take care

hi sheetal, believe me he does tht despite eating prperly there is absolutely no earing prob and yes he does tel me that he is havin a stomach pain and i tel him its bcoz u hav to pass stool but once he has controlled the pressure he goes on to play again. ive talked to his ped and he says if he controls it for a day then it bcomes hard and thats why it is possib that he cannot pass it comfortably.the 3rd day i make him wear a diaper and he does it with a lot of effort.is tis prob common or i m too late in introducin him to this habbit..

hi,
i just tranied my 2 and a half year old son.i let him be without the daiper the whole day for couple of days.let him get wet and let him poop in his paints for few days.try this for 3 days 4th day he will come and tell u to take him to potty.he might tell u 5 times out 15 but its a start.thats how i traiend him,and if he has anyfriend just tell him about them that they don,t wear daiper any more cause they r a big boy if u want to be a big boy then use the potty like them.daiper is for tiny babies.it might work.all the best.

RE:What Toddlers Should Be Learning?
Toddlers are at a crucial stage of learning, where foundational skills for life are being developed. At Skillmatics, we believe toddlers should be learning cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory building, and recognition of shapes, colors, and patterns. Language development, motor skills, and social-emotional growth are equally important during these years.
