Name: Ishi Hello All,
How are you all measuring temperature of your little ones? I am using BD Basics digital thermometer to measure temperature under the armpits, I feel I am not getting the correct temperature. I tried to test the thermometer [tested 2 thermometrs, one new and other old] by taking my oral temperature and armpit temperature, both came same. In reality it shouldn' t be the case, temperature under armpit should be 1 degree farenheit lower....I am so confused about this. My son recently got vaccinated and I need to keep a check on his temperature...I don' t want to give him un-necessary dose of tylenol....

I did not read ur message correctly:) sorry abt that...u r already adding 1 degree....I have ear thermometer manufatured by Braun...it usually gives me the same temp as the regural digital one

Hi Ishi,
Basic thermometer temperature under armpit is ok, just add 1 degree to and it will be equivalent to the rectal temperature. My sister told me this, so I do that. Moreover, u can feel by touch if baby has temperature. Any temperature more than 100 degrees can be felt by touch as body is quite warm.

Hi Ishi

When my son was vaccinated two months back,the nurse said the most accurate temperature is got using a rectal thermometer.U get special thermometers which can be used as rectal thermometer.follow the instructions before using it,dont insert it too much into rectum.I also have a thermometer u can find by inserting in to ear.with my first son i used that and occasionally i use that.

Hi Ishi

As Dimple suggested Braun ear thermometer is very good.thats what iam using for nearly 6 and half years (bought it for my elder son).It has been of great help to all of us all these years.U get probes which can be used everytime u use it.Then recently i bought Vicks digital thermometer which can also be used rectally. Normally it wont badly hurt babies but babies dont like a thermometer inserted in to theit butt!!! When my elder one was constipated as a baby i was asked to use a rectal thermometer to initiate his bowel movement.so a bowel movement could happen after usage of a rectal thermometer, but it is said to be accurate.dont insert it too much in to anus,just the tip should be entered.

thanks for your suggestion...can u recommend me the brand for rectal and Tympanic thermometers. I am little scared of taking rectal temperature, have tried? does it hurt the baby?
