Hi All ,
I have been exclusively pumping since 1 month using Medela Symphony breast pump and my milk supply is very good, I can pump avg 3 oz of milk from each breast, my son has refused to latch on my breast since 1 month now...so using a good pump really helps. Also, I would like to mention I drink lots of fluid and high calorie diet....a lactating mothers need an extra of 500 cal/day

i have never heard of chicco or pegion brand..but i do have medela advanced pump in style which is very good.initially i had problem with Reyansh latching so to establish a supply LC suggested me to rent hospital grade medela symphony which did and it was very good.Initially it pains a lot but its nipples and not aerola. It might be due to the flanges you are using might be very small..so just shift to a larger size so that ur nipples or aerola dont rub the tunnel and second before you start pumping apply olive oil to the aerola and nipple as well.this 2 things helped me a lot.again using good pump makes a difference as u can be sure that atleast your supply will not diminish which is possible with cheap pump.Try Advika to breast feed. And last but not the least if you are exclusively EPing then try to pump every 2-3 hours, drink lots of water and have warm shower .

Hi Sangeeta,
I am so sorry for the late reply, I am using medela advanced pump in style and I am able to pump 2.5-3 ozs from each breast every 3-4 hours. This pump is really good and good reviews from everyone that has used it [including me :)]. Sai also does not want to breast feed during the day time even on weekend so I have to pump. I try to pump at least 4 times a day and breast feed him in the night which he does not have issue with.
If it hurts for you try to pump at lower intensity(2-3) in the beginning and use lanolin cream after pumpings. Try to pump every 2-3 hours that should help you with the milk production and drink lots and lots of fluids. I drink 64 to 80 ozs of water a day.
But at the end if you are not able to breast feed don´ t feel bad, breast milk or formula baby should get nutrition. Try your best and leave everything else to God he will take care of everything. :)
All The Best
Dimple

Sorry about the problem.I dont express breast milk that much.iam just using a cheap electric pump from brand evenflo.but i pump just a couple of times in a week. earlier i used to pump once a day.
As Ishi had suggested try to check out if u get pumps for rent.I felt that before pumping breast taking a warm shower (helps me a lot)and drinking around 2 glasses of fluids helped a lot.If milk comes fast then it wont hurt the nipple as u wouldnt be pumping for a long time.Next look in the pump manual and see if there r different settings and sometimes pumps come with some flap like thing to suite the size of ur breast and nipple.mine comes with one which can be inserted in pumping area for women with smaller nipple.if u r pumping incorrectly it will hurt ur breast. Manual pumps r usually very very cumbersome.Try not to hurt ur breasts too much.i have been noticing that as babies get more used to bottle they r refusing breast completely.

Hello Sangeeta,
My son also has refused to take breast and I am expressing milk using hospital grade electric breast pump manufactured by Medela [its name is Symphony]Its a very good pump, the pumping action is close to baby' s sucking. Yeah, nipples do get swollen sometimes but not the areola. Pumping should not be painful, read the manual once more, maybe u r doing something wrong or its not the best pump. Make sure u are using proper breast shields. Are u living in the US? if yes, then rent the pump from the hospital or babies r us.
Hope it helps,
