Joint Family:Advice

Hi Girls... even guys are welcome to comment.

I need some advice on something.. I am not sure what to do.

Well the thing is.. my Mom bought me this gold set to wear in my Chundadi ceremony (before wedding)... then after wedding my MIL was going to India to some wedding.. so she borrowed it if she could take my set with her.... she went 1.5 years ago... and last year I was going to some function so asked her back for the set cos I wanted to wear it. She said she cannot find it..I asked her to look for it... and she managed to come with just the earings, not the whole set and says she does not know where it is.
Thats all she says!! I have not worn it since my chundadi ceremony and my parents are not that well off and they struggled to buy it for me.

Therefore my question is - should I ask MIL to replace it or let it go?
I am confused.

Please help.

These mother in laws are very clever. If you would have done this. she would have shown you all her colour. Don' t give the earing back otherwise she will keep that also. but tell her that loosing a gold is not good it brings bad luck. if earing is here the whole set should be here somewhere in the house, Today we will search the whole thing. then tell her that the earing is of no use without that set. My MIL has my whole jwelery in her locker and whenever there is wedding on her side she give from my jwelery. and all my jwelery my mother gave me.but I am stuck coz all jwels are in her control. I left my good sari in india and she gave 7-8 sari to her family but I asked that she said it was sitting here useless so I gave. These MIL are very good in these thing. so be careful.

Hi Friend

I think you may be right.
If earings are there then whole set should be there too... unless ofcourse she was clever and gave it away early.
Once I bought a present for my mum´ s birthday... she wanted to give it to her daughter.. i threw a fit about it. She has all my jewellery locked up too in her account... I am moving out of her house in June with my husband so planning on separating that afterwards.

Why dont you try and get your jewellery separated too? Does your husband know she is giving away your stuff?

hi actually i asked u abt ur SIL becoz sometimes MIL' s give things to their D (sometimes) or to any other relative but if ur MIl has done this u will surely get to know that one day in some family function so i think she will probably not do it.

just do wat u are thinking to do but remember be very very polite she or UR HUBBY shud not feel that u are tonting or commenting .this can harm ur and urhubby' s relation ship.

guys are always possesive abt their mothers.
bye

Damn right Help.

Guys are still stuck to their mothers.

I think she may have given it to some relative in India.. cos am in the UK so she might think how will I ever find out..definitely not to SIL. SIL is married into a very rich family.. she is nothing like my MIL. She has a big heart.

I´ ll keep you updated on the outcome... yes gotta be very careful how I word it.

hi SR,
have ur hubby aware of this whole thing ??if not first tell him but indirectly when he is in good mood so that he doesnt feel that u r blaming his mother. secondly just in talks whenever u find chance ask ur MIL that has she find the set. and if u feel right then return back those earings also by saying only earings is no use to u so whenever she find the set then u will take full of the set.

and never leave anychance of pinpointing that she lost it but very very politely and nicely.

do u have any SIL?

Thanks for responding....

I do have a SIL.. she is married and does not interfere..she´ s cool.

I was thinking of doing as u suggested..giviing her earings.. and saying that they are no good to me on their own.
Yes my husband is aware of it but has not commented. I think tonight I will ask her infront of him what the progress is in looking for it.
Then depending on her response I will tell her that she can keep the earings.

Should a single man live with his mum in India?
I am a man in my late 40s and I have lived abroad in USA for the past two decades. I never had any interest in marrying or having kids so I never married. Recently my Dad passed away and my mother will be alone. I have made enough money to retire comfortably but because I am used to the American lifestyle I can't live in India. Recently my relatives have started saying tha... - Venkat Dabri [View Message]
