hi

i have already bought a bassinet.i know it is useful only till 4-5 months, but somehow i found the crib to be very big for early stages of the baby.i donno how many people agree to this, but i felt that way.i also bought a bouncer which vibrates and also have soothing modes.

Hi,

Bassinets can be used only for a few mths. And even as far as crib goes, my friends have suggested we get it after the baby is 3-4 mths old.So at present we might just buy a swing.
hope this helps.

Girls,
My frends tell me that if u put the baby in bed, yes its convenient to feed and also the baby goes to sleep fast etc etc. But I believe the baby will NEVER sleep alone if it gets used to it.
Thats the reason many kids dont sleep in the crib. Yes Cradle is good, but its not safe after 7-8 months I feel since baby also moves a lot and so does the cradle. I plan to have the babies in bed with me for 1 month or so then move them to the crib(have the crib in the bedroom for a while). I dont want babies in bed with us for 2yrs.... I am not kidding my frends kids dont sleep alone AT ALL since they havent been let alone... But I have to see what works practically once they r born. Bouncer and swings have flat positioning for infants too, or surely after 3 months they can use them.
This is my opinion

Hi Bar,

The rail rider is really a neat idea. I never knew they made something like this and thanks so much for the info. I think you have excellent ideas.
I completely agree about having kids in the bedroom for long, most of my friends also seem to regret having let them share the same bed since even at 2 and 3 years they are still in the bed with them.

Hi Suni
I too agree to what u say... put crib in bedroom for a while and then move it to the baby room. That too with twins I dont want 2 babies in bed.. we have king bed but that too is not comf for 4 people.
I dont wanna buy changing table, as such I am going to put 2 cribs in baby room... My frend has this cool thing called RAIL RIDER, its like a station that attaches to crib, can be hung on side when not in use, doesnt take space
check it out

Hi Bar,

I completely agree with you about having two year olds in bed with us, once they get used to it, they will never adjust otherwise. I was planning to put mine in a crib right from day 1, but I was going to attach the crib to my bed so that feeding etc would be easy and the baby would be at arm's reach, at the same time still be in the baby's own bed.

What about changing tables? Are any of you considering them too?

Hi Manisha,

The cradle is a fantastic idea, but I did not see any at BabiesRUs. Can you let us know where you found them? Bassinets are so cute to look at, but as you said, we can use it only for a few months.

Hi Suni

It is available in Baby Depot of Burlington Coat Factory. online on -
bcfdirect*com
ababy*com
netkidswear*com
nextag*com

The size or cradle is 2/3rd of the crib, i wrote 1/3rd by mistake in my last message. The standard mattress size for cradle is 18"X36".
I am not able to run in the stores too much, so i might order it online.

Subject:  Thanks for bringing this up

I was also having the same doubt..thanks for bringing it up...from my two experiences with my friends both have spent a lot on the static crib, none of the kids yet used it...one they don't like to be left alone. The infant would immediately get up when warmth of mom was not there. she did sleep very well during day in the bouncer, even charpai here with grandma on side..but refuses to sleep in the crib.
My other friend never invested in a crib. She would have baby by her side, one feeding was easier and its quite often and later after a year both got used to sleeping in beds with pillows on sides...so was confused and still am even now..with the little space in bedroom bassinet seems more convienient, my friend's mom said baby likes to be rocked to sleep..she didn't like any static cradle and from experience seen baby does sleep faster if rocked or walked around.
was looking for comments on all sites of parents who got cribs/cradles..am just waiting for a month after baby comes..keeping my selections of both now..will see how our baby feels and then will invest in it later and waiting to hear from what everyone here thinks..crib does sound good investment after a year...first year not seen it working till now don't know if all babies react differently /same..so still thinking about it..

Hey Ritu good topic!
i too am in a dilemma since we r in an apt so would love to buy a crib for the li'l one but what IF we don't use it as much.Somehow still feel for day sleeping&long term it is a good investment.
Bassinets&cradles r short term.
Manisha r u sure we can use a cradle until 18mths?
Have any of u considered or know friends using a co-sleeper or playard?
The first 3-4 mths atleast i wld like to have close contact with the baby for feeding comfortably at nites&then wld like to get him/her used to the crib.

Hi Ritu

i am also confused & still exploring.. i am confused between cradle and crib. I am thinking of buying a wooden cradle, which is something between a bassinet and a crib. i have asked few of my friends( they all have cribs), they first make the baby sleep with them on the bed, & when the baby is slept then they put it in the crib. They are not even using it very regularly. So i have thoughts of buying a wooden swinging cradle(not rocking), lie teh baby in the cradle, give few swings & the baby will be slept, even our husbands can do that. we can not use it as long as the crib, because its almost 1/3rd of the size of a crib, but bigger than a bassinet, i think we can use it for 15-18 months, but later we'll have to buy a crib.
About bouncer/swing, i think for 3-4 months baby is too small to put in half-lying/half-sitting positions.
I am still confused.. but more convinced for a wooden cradle for baby's first year.

Ritu
My frends gave me cribs so I didnt buy.
Its good to buy only Wooden Cribs. Anything from 150-250 is good price from babiesRus or BabyDepot(they have the std good brands).
I heard that bassinet will not be useful once the baby reached 4-5 months thats what my frends told me.
For the rocking motion, I am planning to buy a bouncer that vibrates and then also an automatic Graco Swing.
