Hi Radha

Congrats on your pregnancy.

I too am veg - during my pregnancy ( I now have a nine month old daughter) I followed a healthy eating plan (well, mostly). Milk is recommended for calcium - if you don't like milk, there are other sources such as cheese, yougurt (curd), ice cream (yes!)- what about milkshakes - you can make this with your favourite fruit such as bananas or mangoes or strawberries or chikoos. Eat plenty of protein in the form of rajma, chickpeas, lentils such as moong dal, carbs - wholemeal bread, chappatis, rice, lots of veggies and fruit. You need to drink lots of water, fruit/veg juices are also good.

There is no need to eat too much butter or ghee or rich foods - eating for two is a myth - you need to consume additional calories. Are you seeing a good doc. When you go for your checks and ultrasounds, you will be advised re. growth of baby/your weight gain. I took a multivitamin daily and an iron supplement. Do eat almonds, raisins, apricots and other dried fruit as these are good sources of iron/other minerals. Seasame seeds (til) is a good source of calcium. baby centre dot co dot uk is a great website.

good luck

Samika

RE:first time egg eater
If you want to gain weight then you should not worry about it and eat 2 whole eggs everyday in any form like boiled or omelet. Too much of anything even if healthy, is not right and you should eat everything in limits. ... - Hardika [View Message]
