Hi everybody

Mother-in-law went to the bombay consulate, since we had to fill in the form the time to be spent in US, we had filled in 6 months and application was for multiple entry 10 year visa.
Was asked why she needed to go to US for 6 months. She said it was be with her son and travel..he asked her to ask ur son to come and meet u...rude..heard bombay consulate people are partial to gujus... and some guys are just plain rude..but anyway wondering for those u have already had their visas done, what u have filled in for time period to be in US?
She had all her papers they did not have any prob with that..
she is reapplying now..wondering if we should change the details..
If u have any tips let us know..
Thanks
Radhika

Hello Radhika & friends,

sorry to hear that your MIL didn't get visa. here is what i heard from my hubby.

\";why do you need 6months stay\"; or \";how long you intend to stay\"; are normal interview questions they ask everyone?

As there is no specific answer for these questions, but any answer that pleases him and creates a illusion that you will come back will Help.

some valid answers
a) it's been a while(x years) we have seen our son/daughter
b) my son/daugther has to take us around, and he/she is working. Only sat/sun are available to tour.
c) we requested 6 months as default, but if you(officer) prefer less or greater we will accept it.

All answers should follow saying \"; we will come back once the X month validity is over\";. (This is to confirm that you don't want extend your stay).

For these reasons, it's advisable to take 'TRANSLATORS' in the native-language, that way PIL can use the \";smooth & nicest words\"; more confidentally.

please prepare your parents for these type of questions, that a way they are not put-in-a-spot for these type of questions.

thatz my hubby's advice. And we prepared my mother for this interview the same way.

good luck girls. I will pray for everyone.

--Shreyu

DOn't worry bargavi...chennai consulate people maybe considerate. have many from hyd. coming here.
My mother inlaws observations are:
now since all visa holders have to give interview they hardly give u a min to talk to the person.
All were americans, only indians were in the hindi/gujju window. wondering if she will get in the hindi counter.
Since many colleges are reopening, many students for visas so rush is crazy..
Many had been rejected, worst u lose 5000Rs in this process..wondering if they are trying to make money out of it..
My fatherinlaw retires in dec so he cannot come now..still wondering if we apply for both if we will get it. gen opinion was one person coming gives a reason for them to go back..so the american asked how can u leave your husband alone for 6 months..so guess duration was the problem. Anyway now everyone suggested to reduce duration to a month. So she can validate her reason of \";travel\";..
from what she said, i feel its just too many people and afternoon time..and just awful moods there and rudeness..
there was no other reason.
Do not say this to ur parents, they tend to get worried..let them be calm, u guys pray and i am sure chennai consulate will be better folks..
I am now joining all the classes to be on the safer side..so i can manage even if i am alone, fortunately got experienced moms as friends..and being positive..becoz there is nothing more we can do.
All the best..just leave things now to God..hopefully u will all get thru without any problems..
Radhika

Hi Radhika
I am so sorry for your MIL didn't get the visa. Its totally on the mood of the person sitting there, they don't even understand how much inconvenience they have caused by rejecting the visa.
How well we prepare our papers its not their concern if they are not in mood today. They had really been too rude to ur MIL. My PIL also applied for 6 months, and they got multiple entry 5 years visa. They asked for hindi speaking counter, and fortunately the lady sitting there was in favorable mood. I just wish good luck for their second try. Sometimes they get suspicious when somebody immediately applies again, but i have no idea how to prevent them not thinking so. Try to get more ideas from path2usa. I hope rest everything is fine with you.
