Hello everybody

I think I am having a bladder infection.I got a call from the clinic yesterday.I had given an urine sample along with with my sugar test.I have been prescribed the antibiotic Amoxil for 7 days-3 times a day (Yuck- I hate medicines, especially antibiotics-have never been a pill person).I couldn't talk to the doctor as she wasn't in.The only problem is I am allergic to Penicillin and both my FP ad gynec know it.I am meeting another doctor working in the same clinic today to know more about the infection and any alternative medications I could have.

Actually,this infection seems to be the non-symptomatic one as I didn't have any symptoms.

Will update when I am back.

I went to meet the doctor yesterday.I have the E-Coli bacterium infection which is pretty common in pregnancy.The infection doesn't seem to be very severe.Since,I had taken the test 2 weeks back,the doctor wanted me to be tested one more time to see if the infection had cleared by itself.The results will be out tomorrow.

I am going to have as much cranberry juice as possible (my doctor uncle suggested) as it makes the urine slightly acidic and tries to kill off the bacteria.Depending on the test results,the doctor might put me on Cephlax(not sure of the spelling);a distant cousin of Penicillin.

Otherwise things are fine.My sugar test results were normal.I feel my son's movements everyday.Somedays,he is very active and other days he is pretty quite.How is everyone else finding their baby's movements to be?

Dear Sandhya,

Good to know about the appointment. Let's just hope that this time the result will be negative so that you don't have to go through that anti-biotic course. I myself hate taking medicines and have been very careless about my pre-natals as well.

Hi Sandhya,
E. coli is normally associated within colon and the count of this bacterium is in some hundred millions. This is not a serious threat. You will be more than fine.
Penicillin or it's derivatives kill any actively growing bacteria.
Cephalax is nothing but Cephalosporin which is another antibiotic that acts like Penicillin. You will have nothing to worry for penicillin Allergy :)

You will be great in a few days.

DOn't worry dear everything is going to be fine once u complete ur dose,just today i was reading in a book that UTI is common in 3rd trimster,ALL the best for ur appo,do update on it.

Subject:  Nothing to Worry



Hi Sandhya,

You are prescribed Amoxicillin. It's little different from Benzyl Penicilling and unlikely you are allergic to Amoxicillin. But better to confirm from your Dr.

You should be find after completing dose of Amoxil. This antibiotic is one of the widely used antibiotic througout the pregnancy.

i hope by now your doubt must have been cleared and must have also delivered a healthy baby!

I have been currently diagnosed with a +ve trisomy 18 screen after the triple market test. am really worried. could you let me know which genesist you consulted and what the docotor said in your case.

I am so happy to share with you all that my little baby girl is born at 8:28 today She weighs 7.2 lbs and is 19\" tall. Both (Mommy and Mollie) are doing great !
