Dear Jo
Until you finish your 5th month it should be OK to sleep on back but afterwords it's not advisable. Since the half of the pregnancy you will have to sleep on sides and that's when you are heavy too, I would suggest to sleep on sides from now, it would be easier than more difficult to sleep on sides only after 5th months.

Dear Rajlakshmi,

The best position to sleep from week 20 onward is on your left side. You can turn on to right side. As anytime after 7th month increased uterus size and baby will make it little difficult to change side while sleeping it would be helpful to get up and then change from left to right side or right to left side.

Sleeping on the back or belly after 20 weeks gestation is always not advised. In particular with Low Lying Placenta.

NO sleeping on your back will not raise any problem while in labor but they will restrict you from proper breathing as the lungs will be compressed. You can realize discomfort by yourself. Also the blood flow will be deminished as the vessels are likely flattened.

Try to sleep on sides good for you and baby.
