Hi,

My son is 6 and 1/2 months old. Generally he is very healthy. He got cold last week. It was very mild and we took him to doctor. His paed said it is just seasonal cold. nothing to worry. I gave sinarest-AF for 2 days. Though doctor asked me to put for 4 days, as he was fine in 2 days, I gave him only for 2 days. I started steamed apple and sweet potato for him this month. I started apple almost same time as when he got cold first time.

1)Can Apples cause cold to babies. none of us allergitic to apple?
2)how to keep seasonals cold away.
3)I leave him at daycare, but no one else has cold there. And they keep healthy kids away from sick kids.

Please advice Hetal replied. 1.in normal conditiosn,, it is unlikely that apple causes cold or cough. if you offer it raw,,that could have choked and might have caused cold..as ne choking in nasal causes blockage and might lead to cough or cold.

Sp and Momoflittle,,cross check for allergy on apples :
1. did you offer it cooked/fully cooked/boiled ?
2. which brand of apple you used/if in US ? did you use same brand of apple both the times you introduced apple,,if so, there is a possibility that that brand or vendor who sells the apples,,might have the stock that is higher amts of pesticides that might lead to allergic reactions like cough, colds, sore throats ! or that brand is grown in northern latitudes,,thn its likely that those apples/fruits or vegies grown there,,may cause birch allergies to your child,,which explains coughs...

3.was the texture acceptable to your child or was an introduction to lumpier food ?

4. if your dr has told that its seasonal cold, its likely that its seasonal cold..because symptoms of allergic reactions/esp food reactions are seen mostly on skin or is related to nausea,vomitng, itching or loose motions,,its unlikely that cough could be the reason..unless its birch allergy issue.
sp in your case,,both the time you introduced apple it could be a season change time,,and in US, if you are,,try for the organic stock,see if its acceptable...
ask your dr about allergy test,,to verify the truth.

the only possibility i see is,,that your kids are having oral allergies or birch pollen allergy..its caused in foods like potato, carrots,parsley,celery, apple and pears...
it might have happend that your kids felt the itching or mild swelling of throat,,and the smyptoms occur in minutes of eating these foods.which might have led to cough and thn cold...

to avoid,not much you can do,,see if offering it cooked (without skin) helps or reduces the effects,,or rather avoiding it helps ! ask your dr about birch allergy vacnes during seasonal changes..
i dont want you to rule out the line,,as its too early for you to come to conclusion ! but i want you to talk about it to your dr.and see what he says !

SP replied. i dont really know if apple causes allergic reaction or not.. but with my son, i gave him apple puree for the first time when he was 5 months old.. then he got a cough. again i gave him apple when he was 6 months old. this time also he got cough cold. So with him i am assuming he has an allergic reaction to apple and shall give him apple probably when he is an year only!
