Hi ,

My son ( 1 and half years old ) is having fever and cold since last three days. I took him to the doctor yesterday and he said it's a viral infection . He's prescribed the same medicines that I have been giving since last three days . Calpol , Domstal ( for vomiting ) , sinarest ( for running nose ). But he hasn't prescribed anything for throat pain or sore throat and my son's cough is getting worse. we give him hot water to drink - what else can we do ? I try to give him turmeric and pepper with some bournvita in hot milk. Is there any cough syrup for children ?

Also, is banana inappropriate to give during fever and cold. I have heard older people say so. but doctor says it's OK.My prob is that's the only fruit he has and if we stop it , it immediately causes constipation and that's even worse to have during fever. I always make sure we give him banana milkshake slightly warm.

Any other home remedies are welcome .

Minka Hetal replied. offer milkshake or ne milk items with strands(2-3) of kesar,some cardamom and a lil sprinkle of ginger pwder,,now tht your baby is 1year old,i feel comfortable talking about this !
if you are doing this avoid pepper !
tumeric to the quantity that milk is yellowish,,which means in 8oz of bottle, 1/4tsp goes a long way,,is enough !
offer your child warm/lukewarm water(that is boiled with 1/2tsp of ghee),,after every episode of coughs,,it will soothe him/comfort him.
rest all is upto you !
Hetal replied. in viralinfections,,with medication, avoid ne home remedies,,,rem its viral infection and its unlikely that such an infection will be cured with ne home remedies,,also note that mostly in cold,cough,,we often give hot foods like turmeric in milk and basil leaves and pepper,,and in that you are giving all these medications !! result,,baby gets severe stomach upset.or it might lead to complete loss of apetite because the stomach acids are as it is higher when in viral infection,,and in that you are adding the acidity levels,,,
when your child is on medication and that result is out by your dr,,avoid all the home remedies that includes ne cure,,,remember the home remedies are to soothe the patient for seasonal things and not for viral infections...
there are other lil things you can do soothe your child during infections,,,please go thru this :
make sure to keep your child well hydrated...check the below links on how to prevent freq cold,coughs,congestions,,and it will also guide you about diet and foods to offer,,make sure to make a note of your child age before you offer nething...i have spcifically mentioned diet acc to child age and so dont overdo or experiment it unless your child is of same age or let me say,,avoid such foods.the below links have some info that will help you eliminate all the

about banana,,if your baby has been sensitive to banana,and had cold or cough,,thn only avoid it,,if NOT,,its ok to continue..banana effects depends on body nature,,check my posts on banana,curd and cold :

ask your dr about cough syrup. he will prescribe one that is just right for your baby,,,last but not the least, i want you to ask your dr about flu shot.
