Intelligent Child:
2013-07-05
Name: ashima

my kid really doesn' t like doing home work. He is in class 4 and all the time he is thinking of ways to avoid doing homework. He postpones it and at the end moment either i have to do it for him or i have to force him into doing. This has created a big problem between us. I also sometimes wonder, what is the need for giving so much of homework. Somethings that are done in school are also oft repeated at home. i think it' s useless. i mean think about it when they do their work at school already so what is the need at home.

Come up with a reward system for your kids initially to encourage your kid to become more disciplined in doing home work. You can say, lets go out for this weekend, pamper you kid. For few kids, it works.

My kids also hated homework. I had a terrible time in making them sit for homework. Actually kids do not like sitting and studying at home cos they are already spending enough time doing work in school. As a parent, you can assist him and motivate him in doing his homework. Instead of forcing him to do homework, you can fix a study time and during this time, he has to do anything related to studies. A study routine goes a long way in making a study habit. Never do problems or assignments for your child.

Hi Ashima! I feel homework are a necessity as they help in revising the topics done in school. I am very shocked to hear that you do your kid' s homework sometimes. this is setting a bad example for your kid. I am really shocked that you are not able to see your mistake and blaming on the homework. If your kid does his homework then he will be able to understand his studies completely and this will help him in his future exams. Homework are just a way of revising. Instead of doing his homework, you should help him or guide him in completing his work on time.If there is too much of homework that the child feels burdened and has no time to play, then you can discuss this with other parents and his teacher.

RE:Reading Newspapers
How old is your kid as it depends on the age of the child and one cannot force a five year old to read the newspaper so if your child is above ten years then yes you should ask him or her to read the newspaper daily.... - Aditi [View Message]
