I am in my 28th week now and I have heard that before/around this period is when iron tablets are prescribed.

My doc however, hasn't prescribed anything for me and that worries me a bit (maybe, I'm worrying unnecessarily, but just had to throw this out there) - The doc says that my haemoglobin level is at 12 and that's normal for pregnant women. What have your experiences been?

I am on vitamins (Centrum) which are available over the counter. Have any of you been taking anthing specific?

Hi Venita,

Iron tablets are not must for everyone. U take it only when ur haemoglobin level is low. So don't worry. My blood test shows a low level so I am taking 2 tabs per day alongwith prenatal vitamins.

The Centrum vitamins are over the counter medicine. R u taking it by ur own or ur doc has prescribed you. I used to take it before pregnancy and i stopped it after conceiving.

my doc started iron & calcium latest my 22nd week. yeah! that time my haemoglobin level was 10.9. yours have not started perhaps good level(12).

Hi Jaya,

Thanks for your re-assuring post - I guess I have been unduly worrying.

Anyway, my check up last week indicated that my haemoglobin count was a little less and I have been prescribed tablets since then.

My 20 week ultrasound also showed an enlarged kidney. The good news is that since it is only one side, chances are that he will \";grow out of it\"; and if there's a problem it will resolve itself. Hey Kavita,

I'd say you get the ultrasound done so you will be able to see what is going on. Vaginal ultrasound is a good idea too.
