Hi there. I am American but spent some time in India and am married to an Indian. So I have a bit of experience with Indian cuisine.

I think you might mean pakora? It is a deep-fried fritter, meaning a batter of chick-pea flour and liquid that has either veggies (onions, corn, etc) or meat (chicken) mixed in with spices. It is really yummy, especially when served with the beautiful purple/red tamarind sauce.

In the U.S. chick-pea flour is hard to come by so we use corn meal (dried ground corn) and they are called hush puppies or fritters. But similar pretty similar.

Hope this was of some help...

Jeanna
