Speech:Verbal development

My daughter is 18 months but has just 2 - 3 very simple words in her vocabulary but doesnot even include mama or papa. many cases she refuses when we ask her to talk. we are worried abt this since she doesnot talk but is able to understand everything we say and is able to communicate with us thru actions. Her pediatrician says that there is nothing to worry. can anyone let us know if this is a cause for concern.

My daughter did the same... Refused to talk, is your child shy? That was part of the prob with my little girl. Basiclly we saw a speech therapist and she asked us to get our daughter to repeat things, which you are doing I see... When giving her a drink say DRINK and go to pass it to her, ask her to say it... Try 3 times is what we were told and then stop... So you say the word drink, ask her to repeat, say it again, ask for repetition etc... Do this with as many things as you can, with toys, food, places, people... Within a short while my little girl was talking none stop

Hi NP!

There is absolutely no need for you to worry right now. Most of the kids dont start talking until 2-21/2 years, If your daughter does not start talking after that then you need to worry. I think your Ped will let you know if he sees a problem. Relax. In the meanwhile you can encourage her to babble..like,,ta-ta,pa-pa, da-da etc..

Speech/language delay - 2.3 yr old boy
Hello Everyone

Our 28 months old boy is not speaking simple 2 or 3 word sentences yet. He speaks a few words such as mama, papa, aunty etc but definitely not more than 10. Also, he doesn't understand slightly longer sentences, even when we speak slowly and enact it such as "we'll go out after we eat". Otherwise, he appears perfectly normal. My son is less than 4 and has been diagnosed to be on the autism spectrum. He is non-verbal. We are taking him for OT and ABA/speech therapy.

Meanwhile, I read about an Ayurvedic hospital called Kerala Samajam hospital in Shoranur. Has anyone gone there for treatment? Any reviews?

Hints for Nursing
Babies eat and eat and eat. Although nature has done a pretty good job of providing you and your baby with the right equipment, in the beginning it's almost guaranteed to be harder than you expected. From sore nipples to tough latch-ons, nursing can seem overwhelming.
