Non-Vegetarian Food:how to make ghee ?

Hi all,

I wanted to know how we can make ghee from the milk that we get in US ? We usually buy 2% fat milk- can I make ghee from that or do I need to buy full fat milk? And what is the procedure ? has anyone tried it ? If yes, then how does it come out?

Please, share your views.

Subject:  ghee preparation



1. First take cream on the top of milk, (if with more fat content then get more cream). You will get just about two to three spoons for one liter of milk. Store in fridge. Like this collect for a week.
2. Then once in a week mix all cream heat it, and make it as curd.
3. Store in fridge (overnight will do).
4. Then take it out, wait till the chillness goes.. add some water and then churn it with the help of churner(churner.. hope you get only in India) for sometime..you will find the magic happening.. butter floating on top of buttermilk, take it out with the help of hand and spoon.
5. Once you have enough butter, put that in a hard-bottom vessel, heat it for about 10 mins or till you get the fragrance of ghee, take it out of stove, make it cool, filter and store.

6. Optional: You can add curry leaves (after you take the ghee from stove) and can take that out once it splutters and subsides. Don' t throw that away.. can eat that as it is or use it in some other cooking.

You can get unsalted butter in all grocery store, you can use that butter for making ghee, heat tht butter in pan and let it boil on medium flame for 15 min and stir it

Hey i am from NZ...probably the other corner of the world...i have a simple and time saving recipe to make ghee in about 15 mins..i guess thats all we want being outside india..
take unsalted butter and just heat it in the pan until you see the butter melt and sort of brown colored stuff on the top..thats when your ghee is ready..!

this is wealllly weally simple and best so far..! lemme know if it worked for you...
make sure you use unsalted butter ..
