How did a mere 13 year old invent a means of battling diarrhoea? What does it take to raise an excelling over-achieving child? What is the difference between pressurising and encouraging the child to excel?

Subject:  Presswuring Vs Encouraging

Parents always try to encourage their kids in their own ways. sometimes encouraging turns into pressuring. There is a thin line between encouraging and pressuring and few parents are aware of this. Undue pressures discourages kids. Encouragement is when parents cheer the kid into an activity that they want to do and also helping them in their endeavour while pressuring is insisting on doing something in a specific manner. Giving them the choice to do something is encouraging. No parent is perfect. We all have a habit at some point of pressuring rather than encouraging our children. There is a fine line between the two actions.

It is commendable that a 13 yr old has invented a cure for diarrhoea. I think the parents are also to be applauded for this as they did not pressurize her and allowed her to do what she liked. Rather than discouraging her, they helped her and also guided her. She was lucky to get help from other quarters as well. What worked most for her was her resolve to do something. Somebody with a grit and great will power can accomplish the most difficult of all the tasks also. We need more of such young people to make a difference. Parents should also not be over pressurizing their kids.

I agree. Arushi is a genius. At such a young age, she had achieved so much. I think she was lucky to get help from everybody. Her teachers, family doctors and her parents all were very helpful. She has a strong resolve and is not satisfied with this achievement but is aiming higher. The credit for her success goes not only to her but also to her parents but the drive for success and motivation is only hers. she was never pressurized to excel so she could fully immerse herself in her quest. she was aware of her limitations and so worked towards her aim.

RE:Reading Newspapers
How old is your kid as it depends on the age of the child and one cannot force a five year old to read the newspaper so if your child is above ten years then yes you should ask him or her to read the newspaper daily.... - Aditi [View Message]
