HI guys...
Today I came to know that I didnt clear the 1 hr test,.. The level has to be 140 and mine is 142. I have to go for a 3 hr test now. I am so very tensed. What can I do so that it doesnt come out of range this time..... What if I test positive. Do any of you know what could be the side effects...

Thanks,
Vidhya

Its not a concern. I too failed my 1hr test, I think my reading was around 155.
But I kind of cut down on sweets, fruit juices and to some extent rice too.
As Nick mentioned, increase ur protein to maintain a healthy diet.
Try to be strict till ur 3hr test. I too stopped it bfore my 3hr test and guess what I dont have any craving now, I still dont eat sweets and juices which is a good thing anyways right.
Jus a few more months so dont worry and be happy, ur reading is very low compared to mine and Nick's so u shld pass the 3hr test.
Good Luck
Bargavi

HI
Don't worry.Ur readings are pretty low .
For me I had also failed the 1 hr and my reading was 166.
But my 3 hr one was well within normal limits.
Usually only around 20% of people who fail the 1 hr have GD.
And besides it just means having to control ur diet so that u take less
of carbohydrates and more of protein .

I do not intend to scare you but below is some info:
In a healthy person, the blood glucose level is regulated by a hormone called insulin.
Insulin is produced by the pancreas, a small organ near the stomach that also secretes
important enzymes that help in the digestion of food.
Insulin allows glucose to move from the blood into cells, where it is used for fuel.
Gestational diabetes starts when your body is not able to make and use all the insulin it needs for pregnancy

If the GD isn't treated the baby may weigh much more than is normal.
If the baby is very large, one may have a more difficult delivery or need a cesarean section.

But mainly all u need to do is cut down on carbs and take more proteins and follow a strict diet.
And days before the 3 hour cut down on sweets as often the previous glucose level in the blood may interfere
with the normal readings during the test.Starve as per the doc's instructions.
Don't worry .Keep us updated !
