hi everyone,
i am a girl who recently got married and came to usa.i used to stay in andhra pradesh in india before marriage.i am facing a problem here.i am not able to understand the language here.i have done pg,.i am not able to attend phone calls as i cannot understand language.people here speak so fast.due to this my husband gets irritated.now i want to speak n understand american english.can anyone help me..how can i learn soon

Hi kp,
I faced the same problem when I just got here. But soon after coming to US, I became pregnant with my first child. So I had to talk to my doctor every now and then. I would suggest that you watch TV to learn American English. I used to watch news. And don't be afraid of speaking on phone. If you do not understand what the other person says, you can always ask him/her to repeat what they just said. You don't have to be embarassed about anything. After all, it is not our mother-toungue. Here, everybody understands that. I'm from AP too (Visakhapatnam).You said you just got here. Two years form now, you will be easily conversing with the people here
and also might be doing a nice job ! So don't worry. You are going to be fine. Take care and all the best !
