khichdi is made out of rice and lentils. its a wholesome food in itself served with either a curry or kadhi. easy and quick to prepare. a healthy option if you have kids. :)

basic recipe is this :
1/2 cup rice
1/2 cup lentils( either tuvar dal, split green moong dal or split yellow moong dal)
3 cups water
pinch of asafoetida(hing)
salt to taste

in a vessel take 1 cup of rice and lentil mixture, add 3 cups water to it and hing and salt. pressure cook it as you would for dal.
thats it, ready. serve hot with ghee.
a potato-onion curry tastes great with it.
rememeber it should be not be hard. it should be sticky. consistency like upma or pongal.

variations - there are many variations for this recipe, each house has a diff variation of it.
1. you can add soaked whole mong as well.
2. you can add finely chopped vegetables of your choice. this is good for kids too.
3. you can add red chillies, mustard seeds, curry leaves tadka to it and then pressure cook.

once you get the hang of it, you can try your own variation.
good luck !!
