Hi I'm priya and my son Madhav is 2 1/2yrs old. I have put him in a very good playgroup near our house about a month back. He cried a lot lot lot. The teachers assured me that some kids take time to adjust and to give him a mth or so. He seemed to get better but now a mth has passed and his crying if anything has intensified. He screames throughout the 1 and a 1/2 hr. Its terrible. the last two days he has cried even after comming home and is now down with fever. I just dont know what to do. The teachers are very loving and good... they dont force him to do anything. I too prepare him everyday to have fun n I'll pick him up asap....please advice I'm at my wits end.

That's really a tough time for parents.I feel, if it's possible to stay at play school with him, stay with him. make it a point that you play with caretakers along with ur son. i think that kids feel comfortable where mama feel comfortable. so for few days u play or just sit beside him and have chat with caretakers making him more comfortable.gradually u reduce the timings sitting with him. ofcourse its a bit difficult but atleast u dont panic at home thinking howz ur son is at schoool.i tried this with my daughter who cried nearly 3 months.it worked really good.

bye

That is my descision exactly!! I have spoken to his teachers and they have agreed to let me sit for as long as it takes for him to get comfortable... as suggested I will keep reducing the time and hopefully in a couple of mths he should settle.

Thanks

Priya,

I am Vidhya, Mom of 3 year old Adhithi.

This is very common among Kids. My daughter started her play group in June (when she was 2 1/2) and luckily, she didnt cry right from day one. So i didnt face any problem. But i have seen the other kids crying even now after 6-7 months.

You speak to him good about the teachers, toys, friends, rhymes, games etc., Give him some delicious snacks every day, Which he likes.. get him involved in getting ready to school like...ask him \";what dress you will wear today, what snacks box u carry, what shall i prepare for snacks etc., Tell him that he can have fun @ school and you cannot accompany him. Tell him, that you wil wait for him outside till he comes back (Sometimes this helps). I think, this is a settling period and he will get adjusted soon.

Hope this helps. All the best

Regards

Vidhya

Toddlers are at a crucial stage of learning, where foundational skills for life are being developed. At Skillmatics, we believe toddlers should be learning cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory building, and recognition of shapes, colors, and patterns.
