hi my son does not take breast milk when he is awake he takes only in sleep i give him 3times formula rest 4times breast milk... my doubt is wht is the ml to give for 5months baby my doctor told to give 900ml which is not at all possible for him. I am sailing in the same boat as yours. My Lil one weighed 2.7 at birth and at the end of 3 months was 5 kg. He looks really small. Although he is very active, has started trying and almost trying to roll-over.. I am worried about hos weight. I want to start semi solids for him at the end of 4th month. I Have just started giving him one feed of formula 4oz.. he finishes all. What should I do to increase his weight :( Sri replied. Your kids weight is perfect. The thumb rule is at the end of 5th month kids weight should be twice the birth weight and by 1 year they should be thrice the birth weight. So that way your kid is doing good. Even I used to worry when my kid was arnd 5months and she does not take BM... I guess they get amused by seeing things around and they dont drink milk.. Night time they do take milk..and when they sleep they take milk. This is common in most of the kids.. They will be bk to normal once they get used to the surroundings. As long as your kid is active they is nothing to worry. Do not think about the quantity of milk he is taking. All kids are not the same and everyday they cannot take the same quantity. It is natural for moms to get worried .. even i used to get worried. Your kid is doing fine.
Regarding outside food, it suggestable not to give any food till 6 months (incl water). Then you can start on cerelac/raagi/dal water/diluted apple juice in small quantities vanshu replied. Hi Smitha

Don' t be so tensed, at 5 months 6.2 kg is not bad weight, you can assess weight yourself with this formula, Age in months + 9 divided by 2 = weight in Kg, for eg. 5+9/2= 7 kg. As far as food is concerned, what i have learnt is that you should BF or give formula exclusively upto 6 months. Give him as much as he wants. After 6 months you can start giving solids. For solid foods, you can start with cerelac of rice or corn flavour, and then slowly add wheat flavour. You can boil vegetables and mash it in grinder and then give it your son. you can wash moong dal and rice and dry it nicely for one day and then roast it on griddle and then grind it and store it in airtight container. When u want to feed it just boil it for 15 min in water and add some ghee or butter, don' t make it too thick. Don' t give juice right now, and as far as nestum is concerned, i am not aware of it. YOu can also give yolk of egg, just boil the egg and mash yolk, mix little bit of water to make it thin. Don' t give white part of the egg. I hope this will help you.
