Health Concerns:Thyroid during pregnancy

Hi,
I am in my 16th week of pregnancy. I had been asked to consult a hematologist by my OB/GYN, as my first blood reports suggested alphathalassemia. So I went to a good hematologist, who took my blood and ran through several tests. After two weeks, she called me and said that I don't have alphathalassemia, nor do I have iron deficiency. But she said my thyroid level is slightly higher and I may have to go to an endocrinologist.
This is too much for me during pregnancy. First I was fearing for thalassemia, then for iron deficiency. Now they say I am clear of the first two and I may be having thyroid problem. What are the implications if I have such a problem? Will it affect my baby, if I don't attend to it now? Can I go to endocrinologist after my delivery? Can it wait until then? Because, each time I go for these kinds of things, they withdraw enormous amount of blood from me. I am worried.

Dear Concerned mother,

It's fair to get concerned during pregnancy.

here is a little bit:
thyroid gland hormones usually goes down when hCG hormone picks up, that's when you get pregnant. It's like switch and at the end of first trimester these two enzymes attain a certain balanced threshold.

As far as concerned to your pregnancy, you will need to know tale tell pregnancy hormone hCG and thyroid gland analysis done together to see all is fine.

I don't think you should be concerned on blood part, especially when pregnant. Your blood volumes is gone up by 10-20% to your normal levels.
If this process is not taking toll on your pocket and your OB/GYN considers your pregnancy hormones are good then you can choose not to get in thyroid analysis, otherwise you should do as it's one gland that is known to have some impacts on conception and later on to pregnancy hormone.
