Name: Priya Hi, this is a diff type of question but i didnt know where to post it. I use microwave everyday for my food items and now my microwave has turmeric (haldi) stains in the inside. Does anyone have any idea how to remove them and make my microwave look like new again?

this is a remedy i found in one of the website :
Stubborn haldi (turmeric) stains from Plastic / Melamine Plates can be removed if washed with wheat flour

Hi,
Try This.

Apply a paste of cooking soda, mixed with water. Leave it on for 4-5 minutes and rinse it. If the stains are stubbors, leave it for a little longer.

Turmeric Stains

Hi.
I use a solution of liquid chlorine bleach, Sunlight liquid dish soap and water to remove turmeric stains from whites (clothes).

You can soak your plasticware in the same solution 1/4c bleach, 1 tbsp. dish soap and enough hot water to soak the containers in. Soak for a couple of hours and rinse well with hot water.

However, please do not use tupperware or plastic containers or plastic wrap in the microwave to reheat or cook or cover your food. There are chemicals that dissolve into your food and that is harmful and cancer causing. This is legit info we've received here in Canada.

i don't have them in the microwave, but i sure would like to know how to get turmeric stains out of clothes, plastic kitchen utensils, etc. i have never found a way. thank god it doesn't stain teeth! (it doesn't, does it???)

Try this!

Hi kevin,
U can try these tips for removing stains from clothes (I have not tried it anytime, so dont know if its effective):
1) Rub the stain with ordinary soap and place it in the sun to dry. Soon the stain will take on a pink shade. Later wash it out the usual way.
2) Turmeric or gravy stains on cloth can be removed by first rubbing the part with a cut lemon (without water), then drying in sunlight for sometime. Finally wash off with soap and water
Regarding removing turmeric stains from plastic kitchen utensils, I have no idea. Actually like u and Priya, I too want a solution as my containers too have stains of turmeric. But hope u get lucky removing stains from garments. Bye.
