ok I teach grade 6 and some of my students are very shy. I want them to be not shy for high school any comments on what to do? roxy replied. hello i am roxy and i say you shuld let them get into groups of 3 or 4 and make thwm do role plays mascarenhas replied. i think what you could do is make groups where in an activity is given to each group and every member has to contribute in a small way. create an open atmosphere by saying that whatever is said by anyone is right. give the children some responsiblity that you are sure they would be able to manage. for e.g. could be writing a thought for the day or just bringing it to school and showing it to another child who would write it. accept whatever replies you get from the students whenever you ask a question even if it does not fit with the question and then see how you can connect it to the question or any other topic and do reinforce them for it. ask the class as a whole how the answer could fit a question asked and where else would it be applicable. tell them that it would be something that you would not think of. praise them whenever you catch them doing well or interacting. Sejal replied. Depending on where you teach, normally high school begins at 9th grade. They should have plenty of time to get over their shyness by then. There are no magic tricks to helping a child overcome shyness, just be respectful and avoid embarassing him or her.
