Nurseries and Schools:Good schools in Borivli (W). Mumbai
2005-11-18
Name: Rinku

My son is now ready to go to School. He is doing his nursery but now I have to take admission in school. I am confused which school to send him? Everyone thinks that the schooltheir child is going to is the best. But some insist that schools which have CBSE, ICSE syllabus are good. I don't whats so great about it & whether it is really good for my son. I am a convent educated mum, but from SSC board. So if anyone can tell me whats good about CBSE, ICSE & also which schools are good in Borivli (west), it'll help me. Also what one should see while choosing a good school for her son.

Dear Mira,
As a concerned mother, we all go thru this. but would like to draw your attention towards SJBCN School affillition. It is not IGCSE affiliated school yet. because such affliated schools are supposed to put the cambridge school logo on their website and at the same time IGCSE website should also have the particular school name under the approved school. which SJBCN is not. if u r at all planning to send thinking it is an IGCSE school then pls don´ t, cuz nowadays there are somany schools which in the name of interantional charging huge amount and actually not living upto expectation. Only IB and IGCSE approved school in borivali is the ajmera global and d.g. pillai in gorai...guess there are more in dahisar..singapore international school is one of them.

should u need more info pls google IGCSE and will gather lot of info.all this because i don´ t want anyone to regret after u put so much money or keep changing school every year.
goodluck

Subject:  Parametres

Hi Rinku and Vibhuti, I reside in Borivali too and my daughter is in playgroup with The Treehouse, thakur village. I have same issues as yours- which school and why.

c, each parent have their own parametres. Some are satisfied with the usual study, exam, homework, 1 playground, teachers, most importantly fees. most parents believe in the child' s securing marks in exams. some believe in the the child' s development of understanding and learning more than studying. a cild would have scored a 100% in a paper. but the question is how much of practival knowledge does that child have over that subject. and can he/she incorporate what he has vomited in the paper in his real life? this is the crucial question when it comes to WHAT children REALLY \" LEARN\" at school. most schools focus on completing the syllabus before the unit test dead line and thats it, done. unfortunately, SSC,Matriculation and CBSE & ICSSE (to a certain extent) fll under this category. The teaching pace doesnt match the child' s pace of UNDERSTANDING. So before a child can discover the practicality of the concept taught and understanding the concept itself, its time to move on to another concept. hence the concept taught earlier is left alone to make space for new. so things keep piling up. as a result the child ends up literally studying everything by heart and in the end, vomit it. ask the child what he wrote, he wont be able to explain. this is the drawback.

the world is competitive and to match it, new curriculums with constant change, keeping in mind the changes in the world is dsigned by the IGCSE boards. i wont say that they are foolproof. but it matches best with today' s world. many times i debate to myself ' why not a convent for my daughter' s formative years' . yes. the convent will enforce discipline, good habits, good handwriting and all that. but by then the child' s brain is already fully developed and past that stage of the quest to learn and discover new things. which convent schools dont meet definitely. CBSE and ICSE is a good option but the question is ' how competitive they are' . my parents would say ' why do u want to burden your child with so much complexities' . but it sounds complex only when the curriculum infrastructure is complex. but believe me, a child learns more in the formative years than in the teens or a little earlier or later. there are schools that design a curriculum keeping the child' s progress in mind. i have shortlisted a few schools.

I have kept in mind the following: CHILD' S SAFETY FIRST. SAFE CLASS ROOMS, SAFE INFRASTRUCTURE, SAFE FURNITURE...

1) Curriculum matching the child' s pace of LEARNING.
2) the school should focus on the child' s LEARNING and not STUDYING.
3) More practical and less theory (Most International Schools).
4)Enforcing ENGLISH proficiency than Marathi.
5)Discipline. At the same time NO physical enforcement of the same.
6) Variety of facilities like medical room, hygienic child friendly bathrooms, gymnasium, swimming pool, library, creative corner, performing arts, play ground, garden, temperature controlled class rooms (Comfortable temperature means comfortable self) and a few more things.
6)Competitive teachers.
7)the kind of children the school takes in.
8)good parent-management-teachers rapport maintanance by school.
9)the certificate issued by school is valid as they claim to be.
10)finally the fees. if all the above expectations are met, i dont mind paying that. afteral its our child' s furture that im investing in. then it should be worth the money.value for education more than value for money.

these are my parametres. U see how it matches yours.

i just started researching on schools by personally visiting schools and collecting clear information NOT BASED on opinion by others, but out of PERSONAL OBSERVATION. So far i found the best Playschool and primary as Kangaroo kids. in Schools- Billabong High, Vibgyor high, lilavati podar. will keep u updated.

Subject:  Schhols in borivali

hi darshan, i know they are not in borivali. but my survey was very young then and i told what i learnt. recently i did some more survey and i found dr. pillai´ s global academy in gorai to be the best in terms of standards, in all terms, and fees. worth it! fees not very high. very reasonable and SURPRISINGLY reasonable for that standard. many many many facilities. i´ ve actually zeroed in on it. bt only 10 students per class. so admissions restricted. i did see sri sri ravi shankar vidyamandir in gorai too. but wasnt really impressed by the approach and infrastructure. i expected more from it being the child of sri sri ravishankarji. then i saw gurukul universal school in dahisar. no good! nothing universal about it! 35 - 40 students in a class. madness! fees on the higher scale compared to the other best schools. not very impressive. swami vivekananda international scool. nothing international about it too. i guess they are SSC board. i´ ve not been there. bt was put off by the idea of ssc.

will keep u updated on my findings.

RE:What Toddlers Should Be Learning?
Toddlers are at a crucial stage of learning, where foundational skills for life are being developed. At Skillmatics, we believe toddlers should be learning cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory building, and recognition of shapes, colors, and patterns. Language development, motor skills, and social-emotional growth are equally important during these years.
