I am an indian and I live in Sydney, Australia. I am 25 years old. I am getting married in March of 2005. I had visited a phycisian (for a pap test) over here and she said that my hymen has a very thick wall and hence the test could not be taken. She suggested I should have my hymen surgically opened (hymenotomy) by a gynecologist. She said if I leave it like this, then I will have a very painful (or maybe unbearable) intercourse during my wedding night.

I would like to know an opinion from an indian gynecologist. Thatz the reason I am emailing you. I have tried inserting a tampon, and I
cannot. It feels the hymen is completely locking the insertion. On the other side, I do have my periods regularly, prooving that the hymen is not totally imperforate. Can you tell me if you have come accross such cases and if there is any other solution to it? Should I just leave it the way it is or should I have the surgery? I would really really appreciate your reply.

LA replied. Your hyman is there and when u have sex it shud tear naturally. Yes it may be painful, it may not. I had some pain but not unbearable but didn't have any bleeding my first time but I have heard of many women who have both. You can do things the natural way and let it rip by intercourse or you can go to a doctor - that choice is up to you.
And as long as you know why intercourse is painful the first time or even a few times after - then you shouldn't hate sex but know that it is natural.
delil replied. I have come across such patients, the procedure is small and not a big deal.
It might pain loads and bleed if you dont do it otherwise, plus if it pains like hell, it might make you hate sex for a awhile.

dont worry anything about this till marriage. Just get happily married and enter into the sex world.

for every girl during the first intercourse will be very very painful. if u can able to bear that pain then thats fine. Try inserting very little by little.

if u cannot bear the pain then visit the doctor they will do it. one of my friend did that. she is very happy now. i dont think its a big surgery with scissors and knife.....

Plz do not be in a hurry. I understand that it is quite painful for you to operate your hymen surgically and so I advise you not to do it now. Tell you fiancee about the problem and I'm sure he will understand. Best option will be if you operate it with his consent.
See what your to be husband tells you and in the mean time go for another doctor.
Discuss with ur to be husband and take the next step instead of doing what ever you like alone.
Dont try to insert anything there to make the hymen burst as it might prove fatal for your life and health.
