Call your baby’s doctor if:
Your baby’s skin turns more yellow. gums are bit yellowish in some cases..Your baby’s abdomen, arms, or legs are yellow. The whites of your baby’s eyes are yellow. Your baby is is hard to wake, fussy, or not nursing or taking formula well... also,,, check for ne temperatures above 100,,,call your dr..reduces weight and is not able to pass bowels well..
in breastfeed infants, jaundice often lasts for upto 2-3 weeks, and in formula feds,,most jaundice goes away by 2 weeks,,,if at all ne of the above signs are seen,,contact your dr immediately..in your case its been 29days(almost 3-4 weeks),,so he should be recovred by now.
most of the bilirubin leaves the body in the stool,,,,,keep your baby well hydrated with bm or formula,,,nurse as often as needed,,,,so that there are more bowels and excess bilirubin leaves body as soon as it can by the way of bowels...
bilirubin gives stool their brown colour,,most infants that are infected by jaundice has the colours stool dark yellowish,,other wise, normal stools of a newborn at around 1 month is mostly yellowish to tan or brown..and in most infants that are bf,,its often seedy or chuncky...bottle fed formula babies have dark, pasty and thick stools...
check the post mentioned to sudipta paul, dates 15th sept,,in feeding board,,it has some info about jaundice in infants too..
dark yellow urine, or urine with reddish tinge/dust in it,,yellow tinge to skin that is just below the chest line is often because of mild jaundice..and if you see that,,he is still having jaundice...
as far as your baby stool doesnt have blood or mucus or becomes dark yellow,,,,ne colour is normal !!
and best thing is even though your next appointment is after 6weeks,,make a visit to your dr after 4-5 days,,to ensure that your baby has completely recovered...
a very good luck to you.
