my Daughter is just 5 months old... for the past 1 week she cries n screams if i take her near my breast for nursing. We started Solid foods(Cerlac) from the past few days.
Could you suggest on whether we can do something to bring her back to breastfeeding SP replied. Hi I had the same problem around the time my son was 4 months old. he is 11 months now and i have only breast fed him, no bottle.
at that time it seemed very tough. but its just a phase and they pass out of it soon enuf. just hold on and dont give up !

1) check to see if they have a blocked nose. then they cant suck.also make sure they are not ill in any other manner such as ear ache etc.
2) my son used to fuss a lot too to feed. i knew his feed times. so at such times.. i would take him to the bedroom where it was quiet, calm him down, rock him, pat him. and then take him to my breast only whn he was totally calm. it used to work.
3) he was refusing to feed on the left side. so what i did was i would put him on the right breast in the cradle position and once he started sucking slowly bring him to the left breast in the football position.
4)to prevent engorgement, milk drying up, i used to express and store. i used to feed this to him in a spoon when he was refusing to feed with all methods.
5) then at times i used to give him a couple of spoons of water and then take him to my breast.

Finally no one method works. just keep at it and they will feed Hetal replied. 1.increase your supply see if it helps.
2. try to offer breast when child is hungry, after solids offer it in some 2-3hours and see if helps.
3. she is already 5months, if her refusiing continues, it might cost her health,,suba has given you a very practical answer..many babies become stubborn by 3months and they themselves want either bottle or the breast...once they decide,,its difficult !
4.try to latch, eliminate bottle totally, or offer bottle ! some babies are just able to take one at a time !
if still interested, contact a lactation consultant and she wil guide you in person and with practice.
5. try to offer breasts when they are full or about to engorged or you are having let down,,,babies love let downs,,they dont have to work hard much so it might help !

my baby is 4 and half months old and has been doing the same from wwhen she was 3 months old. Suddenly she decides she doesnt want the breast and yells if I try to feed her. During those 2-3 days I pump and feed her and slowly start introducing breast to her and she gets fine in 2-3 days. She has done this 4-5 times in the past 2 months.

Though my answer may not be of much help thougt of sharing. May be you shuld not force her and try and pump and feed her and she should get back to normal soon.
