A lot of parents express concerns related to child' s education, over all development and academic performance.
A huge part of it is considered to depend on child' s IQ, school' s teaching style or parental attention. I have read a number of research findings and articles which conclude that personal attention is of great importance for a child' s development but IQ need not play as important role as normally believed.
My inference is - IQ defines the flair that child is born with but working memory helps the child in developing the knowledge and skills required to utilize that IQ/flair creatively. Once the child learns by him/her self, the Aha! moment happens which boosts the confidence to a whole new level and success is bound to come into the picture.
An article on (APA) American Psychological Association' s website mentions that \" working memory could be the basis for general intelligence and reasoning\" which in turn helps improvement in academic performance and over all development of a child.
There have been a number of researches conducted in world' s top universities studying the effects of Working Memory Training, for example - Harvard, Princeton, Cambridge etc. Recently, the working memory training program used by those universities has been launched in India by Pearson. There are plenty articles on the internet that talk about working memory and how well in predicts the success.
In India, people don' t know much about Working Memory which might restrict the number of families who can benefit from the training, but it seems like a very interesting development!
With the kind of research background working memory has, it seems like a promising concept.
What is your take on it?
