Sleeping:9 month sleeps late and wakes up thrice!

Dear all,

BIG PROBLEM! My son is just going to complete 9 months in a week and my problem is that he sleeps very late at night- around 2-2:30 . Then he wakes up around 2-3 times at night for his milk.

Then he wakes up in the morning between 10 and 11am. His schedule is as follows:

10:30-11:30- soaked badam paste & egg or cerelac

1:30- bath and then milk. then he sleeps for 1-2 hours

3-3:30 -- milk
4-5pm- rice/roti khichdi and some fruit juice. then he sleeps again for 2 hours.

6-7pm -- milk
7-7:30pm--snack. Then he plays for 2 hours and then sleeps again for 1/2 hour or 1 hour

9-9:30-- milk

10-10:30pm-- dinner

12:30-1am- milk and then he plays till 2. And before going to sleep has some more milk.

Hes on formula milk.

Please advise on how I can make him sleep earlier and have him sleep through the night or atleast most of the night.

Thanks all in advance.

-D

10:30-- dinner

I hear you! I was in the same boat a few weeks back...Then when my baby hit the 8th month mark, I read the book Dr. marc weisbluth' s book ' Healthy Sleep habits, Happy Child' and believe me, it changed my world..and finally gave me some sleep. :)

Try not to feed him so many times in the night. That is enforcing his behavior of waking up in the night...

A 9 month old should be able to get through the night without any feedings...

Also, dont provide any stimulation to him after 8-9 pm or so (the good doctor says that babies are programmed to fall asleep between 6-8 pm and an earlier bed time in fact helps them to stay asleep longer)...when it should be his real bed time...whenever he starts rubbing his eyes or gets cranky around this time, figure out that he' s sleepy and take him to his crib/bed which is an a quiet area of the house. Dim the lights and put him down to sleep...if he wants to play, DON' T! Just keep putting him down to sleep...sing lullabies to him, rock him but put him to sleep.

After that when he wakes up in the night, try not to go to him immediately...all babies wake up 2-3 times a night but they can fall asleep by themseleves...

if he starts crying, try to wait a few minutes...I know its difficult...but if you keep picking him up at might to feed him, he is never going to learn how to go to sleep by himself...

Also, try not to feed him dinner so late in the night...

You can also read the babycenter website advice columns...they are really good on these issues..

Hope this helps..take care..

He needs to associate night with sleeping. When you start playing with him late night and give him milk and dinner, he' s gotten used to that..

Babies are sticklers for routines

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
