Health Issues:Question about body hair
2006-09-12
Name: Teja

Hello,

This is my first time here. This is not a serious question but I would like to know something. My cousin mentioned that if we daily give bath to baby girl with haldi root it will remove body hair in the childhood itself. It can prevent growth in the adulthood. Is that true? I am living in US and with white bathroom floor in rented apartment I don't know how it will be possible to use haldi root daily. Just wanted to know all of your opinion. Sorry this is not a serious health question. I know that my baby girl can use adult products later on. But I have terrible growth and it is a time wasting thing to deal with it daily.

Thank you very much, Teja

neha, yours is heidetary thats y you had this problem. i had the same prob.my son was born with lots of hair. from 6months i was using the paste of gramflour, turmeric, milk it eventually stopped in 3months. my son does not have exceptional hair growth like mine or my dh.so the hair was gone earlier than we expected.
teja, your baby is 9months, elder than mine. and is almost like toddler. so i think its completely safe. if you have indian dr he will be okay with this remedy.i had indian dr he adviced me to add some chandan oil in this ! he said it will not make him feel irritation if at all it occurs. but i stay in US and its difficult to find chandan oil so i did not use this oil but i used the paste regularly. if you wash your bath tub just after the bath, turmeric will not spoil the tile or the tub.

hi teja,
let me give you a very personal example. i had a lot of body hair as a baby as well as my sis. my all this is just like waxing it just temporarily removes hair. my mom did all this haldi etc routine to us till we were 10!!!!!
still have to wax.
ask a doc they will tell you the same.
i have a 3 year old daughter , she had the same problem with loads of body hair. her pediatrician advised us against use of this and said that some of the hair will go on its own for the rest dont do anything to such a small baby. i was very apprehensive, what if the hair did not go . but not my daughter is 31/2 and the hair on the face, back, buttocks, etc has vanished.
try the recipes they are very good for the skin , but youneed not follow them religiously, if you have a problem cleaning the tiles later on. maybe you can do it once in a while.
in my experience giving a massage daily helps a lot.

try bajri flour/millet flour. works best like a sand paper on skin !
often results vary, expected to see by 10 days,of daily use.also might make your skin dry, so make sure you give yourself a good oil massage before bath.a little is enough. when you make a paste of it,you will come to know how much you will need for yourself. a little gentle pressure with a little paste is enough. avoid using more paste at a time, might give you rash.

available in all indian stores and also in some walmart store in flour section.

CANNOT BE USED ON BABY BELOW 2 YEARS.

its not the haldi that removes hair ! its the besan or millet that removes hair. if your baby is 9months old, you can try besan and water. in winter, try besan and milk. give her a good oil massage to avoid ne skin dryness.

ne flour esp besan, millet, that rubs the skin so as to remove hair mostly gives dryness..just like one feels skin getting dry after waxing body ! thats what basically it does in the longer run.
turmeric heals skin, improves texture,,gives glow,, thats y we add it...healing in the means of those little cracks or bumps caused by various scratches here and there, at cruising stages of baby,,thus resulting in even skin and since its healed contiuously it basically improves the skin glow.
after bath, gently applying pressure wipe your baby body with a fur towel. dont rub it, wipe it gently in the opposite direction of hair growth.. this will further avoid the hair growth and reduce eventually by some 4-5months..please note there is no hurry for you..and you cannot expect results faster in this case. its a very slow process.
if you will hurry, in this you will end up getting rashes on your baby skin..baby skin is too delicate to be rubbed or applied nethingg.if i were you, i will not even try this gram flour and water paste and just wait for my baby to get 2 years old.until then i would keep trying towel trick.

haldi pwder is the safe to use,and is generally available at ease.and tumeric is root in itself, i am not sure which haldi root you are talking about..,,
also about your idea that in later life of your baby, her hair will be removed by using nething is MYTH.
hair growth is continuous process thru out the life of human being, unless stopped by laser treatment or ne such special treatments, its not possible to stop it or rather say remove it from childhood.
if your baby is having exceptionally good hair quality, namely thick and black, this will continue, but will be CONTROLLED TO SOME EXTENT, IF this gram flour and water or milk is CONTINUED REGULARLY.
for nething you use, always check for your baby skin for ne reactions like skin rashes, redness in the skin, fluffyness,,prickly heat bumps, hair bumps,,,so be very careful..stop if ne such thing is seen.
take care, goodluck

Dear Hetal,

Thank you very much the suggestion. Only problem is that my baby is 9 months. So I will have to wait.
Do you think haldi root is dangerous for 9 month old for the purpose of hair removal?

Advance thanks for your time, Teja

RE: Eczema concern
Hello,

I had a similar query a few months ago concerning eczema occuring in toddlers. As far as I know, it can be due to a varrying number of factors and common foods that end up causing the condition in 1-2 year old toddlers.

In my research I found this article really helpful in addressing the problem:
